Guadeloupe Has Reopened For Tourism – U.S. Remains Banned

The French overseas region of Guadeloupe, located in the Caribbean, has officially reopened for tourism on July 1, 2020 allowing select nations to now visit. Visitors from the United States remain banned until further notice.

Flights directly from France have been permitted as early as June, considering Guadeloupe is still a French territory. As of July 1, flights from Europe and other approved nations like Canada have now been permitted.

As of July 20^th, Guadeloupe only has 9 active cases on the island, which the government is trying to keep under control with very strict entry requirements for tourists.

While Guadeloupe officially reopened for tourism, there are some strict entry requirements you need to know about before you go. Below we have all the details including: what nations can visit, what countries are banned, all entry requirements including testing, flight options, and all other tourist information.

Countries allowed to travel to Guadeloupe

All nations are permitted to enter Guadeloupe for tourism with the exception of: USA, Brazil, India, Israel, Russia, and Turkmenistan. Those 6 nations remain banned until further notice.

Travelers from fellow Caribbean nations, Canada, the UK, the EU and more are allowed to travel to Guadeloupe.

Entry Requirements into Guadeloupe

All passengers require a negative PCR test taken with results present within 72 hours of departure (children under 11 are exempt)
Passengers will have to present a sworn statement that they do not show symptoms and that they are not aware of having been in contact with a confirmed case of covid-19 in the fourteen days preceding the flight
Agree to undergo a temperature check and health assessment upon arrival (which may lead to further testing)
The wearing of face masks on the flight, in the airport, and recommended for 7 days upon arrival
Travelers should have valid travel insurance

Note: As of July 18, airlines will be required to deny boarding to passengers who do not present the 72 hour negative PCR test and the sworn statement.

Are there quarantines upon arriving in Guadeloupe?

For passengers arriving from approved countries (not including Guyana) a mandatory quarantine is NOT required as long as they show no symptoms and have their negative PCR test.

Have flights resumed to Guadeloupe?

Many direct flights have already resumed into Guadeloupe’s Pointe-a-Pitre (PTP) airport.

From Canada:

Montreal on Air Canada, resumed 2x’s weekly in July

From Europe:

Paris on 3 airlines (Air France, Air Caraibes, and Corsair) already resumed June/July

From Caribbean:

St. Martin/Maarten on Air Caraibes and Air Antilles resumed in July
Fort-de-France on Air Antilles and Air France resumed in July
Cayenne on Air France resumed in July
Bridgetown on LIAT scheduled for August
Antigua on LIAT scheduled for August
Santo Domingo on Air Antilles scheduled for August
St. Barths on Air Antilles scheduled for August
Dominica on Air Antilles scheduled for August

Are Hotels Open in Guadeloupe?

The hospitality industry in Guadeloupe is committed to making the safety of its clients, and employees, a priority. Hotels are reopening throughout the archipelago, following a strict protocol. Hygiene coordinators ensure the implementation and enforcement of all sanitary measures:

Mandatory use of masks for employees in direct contact with clients
Hand sanitizers available throughout the properties
Barriers at the front desks
Hotel Restaurants have reorganized their space in order to guarantee social distancing
All common areas deeply cleaned & sanitized continuously throughout the day in order to prevent any contamination (front desk, bars, restaurants, fitness room, Spa, swimming pool ,etc..)
Cleaning staffs must follow a strict sanitizing protocol during the cleaning of the rooms and common areas
Social distancing markers throughout
All sanitary rules are displayed using an extensive signage system in French and English
All suppliers and collaborators are informed and required to respect the same safety measure

When will the USA be allowed to travel to Guadeloupe?

The statement on the government run tourism board site reads:

“U.S. TRAVEL BAN TO THE GUADELOUPE ISLANDS STILL IN EFFECT UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE DUE TO THE SURGE OF COVID-19 IN THE U.S. – Decision by the EU, travel ban will be reevaluated every two weeks.”

However, their FB page just posted that JetBlue will be resuming flights to PTP airport from JFK on November 7^th. Some contradictory information there, but they are obviously planning for ban to be lifted by then if case numbers improve enough.

Note:

We have spent 5 weeks reaching out to the government of Guadeloupe through multiple channels to get many specific questions answered, chiefly “Is entry into Guadeloupe based on residency, nationality or location for the past 14-days” but they have not answered us.
