There is nothing more delightful than sipping a glass of fine wine on a beautiful day. This summer, American wine enthusiasts will be looking forward to resuming wine tastings and tours. Below is a list of top destinations for wine tours in the US for summer 2021.

Savor the Grape on the West Coast
Napa Valley, California
Napa Valley in California is the most famous area for wineries in the United States. One of the most popular wineries in Napa is V. Sattui Winery, which has been in business since 1885. Castello di Amorosa, another Napa staple, has tours of the grounds and its beautiful Tuscan style castle along with wine tasting options. Check the Visit Napa Valley website to find and book your Napa Valley wine tour for this summer.

Sonoma County, California
A neighboring community to Napa, Sonoma also has a following of wine enthusiasts. Beau Wine Tours and Limousine Service has private Sonoma County tours that include barrel and VIP tastings and a gourmet picnic lunch. Some local tour operators offer combined Napa Valley and Sonoma wine tours with meals and transportation included.

Walla Walla, Washington
In the northwest, take a tour of the wineries in the Walla Walla Valley. There are several wine tours available in this region including Imbibe Wine Tours, Tesla Winery Tours, and Walla Walla Wine Limo, plus many more. In Washington State for spring 2021, wine tastings whether indoor or outdoor, are limited to 50 percent capacity, and groups are limited to 10 or less persons.

Snake River, Idaho
Although not an obvious choice, the Snake River Valley in Idaho has a number of wineries. The top wine varieties in the area include Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Riesling. A few of the wineries in Snake River Valley produce wine from organically grown grapes. There are currently 36 wineries in the Snake River Valley, with most offering tours and /or tastings. Many of these wineries offer lodging along with events, in addition to the wine tasting.

Texas Hill Country
Everything is bigger in Texas, and that includes the number of wineries near Fredericksburg, the heart of Texas Wine Country. The region has over 100 wineries just in the Fredericksburg area alone. The wine production here began with the original settlers. They used the local mustang grapes to produce wine. Shuttles and tours in the area include Fredericksburg Cable Car Wine Tours, 290 Wine Yours and Creekstreet Wine Tours, plus many more.

Sedona, Arizona
When in the southwest, sample some of the wine tour offerings near Sedona, Arizona. Begin your tour at the Decanter Tasting Room to tempt your palate with a red or white vintage plus a charcuterie platter. Then you begin the Sedona Arizona Wine Tasting Experience, where you will visit VinoZona. The local tours also visit Alcantara Estate Vineyards, or you can book a special date night with wine and dinner.

Where to Sip on the East Coast
Boston Area, Massachusetts
In Massachusetts, there are numerous wineries just a short jaunt from downtown Boston. Visitors will be amazed at the varieties of wine offered from this region. A few wineries of note include Amherst Farm Winery, Cape Cod Winery and Hillside Cellars. Boston Winery is now taking reservations for indoor and outdoor tastings, plus you can make your own wine through a membership program.

Finger Lakes, New York
The Finger Lakes region of upstate New York is ready for the 2021 summer season with a number of wine tours available. In this region, you can do private or traditional shared wine tours to Senaca Lake, Ithaca, Keuka Lake and Cayuga Lake. The wine professionals strive to deepen the guest’s understanding of wine, disclose history of the region, and introduce guests to interesting food and wine combinations.

Charlottesville, Virginia
While in Virginia, consider booking an excursion on the Monticello Wine Trail. Over 33 wineries in the Charlottesville area and are also places of significance in early American history. President Thomas Jefferson initially dreamed of planting vines on his land and distributing wine. Although Jefferson’s plans never came to fruition, generations of winemakers following him have grown the vines on the eastern slopes of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the surrounding countryside.

I would take Santa Ynez valley over Napa or Sonoma. Less pretentious and a whole lost less expensive. Plenty of wineries for even the longest of trips. They even grow better Pinot noir.
