Travel Alert IssuedJul 13

Wildfires are now disrupting travel in both northern and southern France. A fast-moving fire has burned through roughly 800 hectares of the Fontainebleau forest just south of Paris, forcing partial closures of the A6 motorway, disrupting high-speed rail toward Lyon and the southeast, and drawing hundreds of firefighters and water-bombing aircraft. This comes on top of the ongoing wildfire emergency in the south (Pyrenees-Orientales and Aude), where thousands were evacuated, forest massifs are closed, and Perpignan Airport has seen diversions, all amid continuing extreme heat. If traveling near Paris, check A6 road and TGV rail status before setting out and avoid the Fontainebleau area; in the south, obey all forest-access bans and evacuation orders, avoid areas under red alert, stay hydrated, and expect road, rail, and flight delays.
