Travel Alert IssuedOct 14

Problem: Hurricane Simon has shifted course toward the southern tip of Baja California Sur and is forecast to arrive around Friday night, October 16, bringing heavy rain and rough seas to the region.

Why it matters: Simon is expected to weaken to a tropical storm, but up to 3 inches of rain (isolated 6 to 8 inches) can cause life-threatening flooding and mudslides in steep terrain, and large swells will likely close ports and cancel boat tours.

Advice: Avoid the water and flooded roads, expect water-based excursions to be canceled, and follow guidance from local Civil Protection authorities and your airline.
