No current U.S. Embassy security alerts for Puerto Vallarta

Mexico's federal health commission has issued a no-swim warning for Playa del Cuale in Puerto Vallarta after water tests found unsafe levels of enterococci bacteria. The beach sits where the Cuale River meets the ocean, dividing downtown from the Romantic Zone, so many visitors pass right by it. Contact with the water could cause skin infections or stomach illness. Stay out of the water at Playa del Cuale and heed the warning flags and signs; the rest of Puerto Vallarta and Banderas Bay passed the tests and remain safe for swimming.
