Travel Alert IssuedJul 6

A powerful Pacific swell (mar de fondo) is hitting Los Cabos starting Monday, July 6, with 6-8 ft waves expected to peak on Tuesday, July 7, and local Civil Protection is urging extreme caution at the beaches. The San Jose del Cabo and corridor beaches already have steep drop-offs, sudden shore breaks, and strong undertows, and this swell makes them far more dangerous - sneaker waves can drag people in even from the dry sand. Obey the lifeguard flag system (green = ok, yellow = caution, red = stay out, black = beach closed) and avoid swimming on any Pacific-facing beach; stick to resort pools or designated swimmable areas. Keep children and older travelers well back from the waterline, never turn your back on the ocean, and note that these summer swells can recur with little warning.
