Travel Alert IssuedOct 12

Problem: Travelers heading to or from Brussels Airport (BRU) and Brussels South Charleroi (CRL) face severe ground transit blockades today, ahead of a total halt of all departing flights on Wednesday, October 14.

Why it matters: A nationwide public-sector strike across Belgium today, Monday, October 12, has crippled the train, metro, tram, and bus networks connecting the city to the airports, and Brussels Airport has announced that all departing passenger flights will be 100% canceled on October 14 due to a separate national strike involving airport security staff.

Advice: Do not rely on public trains or buses to reach the airport today, book a private taxi well in advance and budget extra time for severe highway congestion, and if you are scheduled to fly out on October 14, rebook immediately for today or Tuesday, or reroute your departure through Amsterdam or Paris via high-speed rail.
