Colombia

US Embassy BogotáJul 18

Two issues are affecting travel to Colombia: 1) Colombian airspace is subject to military airspace closures and restrictions on July 19-20 for a military air show; expect flight delays, diversions, and possible cancellations. 2) Independence Day (July 20) and the 500th anniversary of Santa Marta are bringing large demonstrations, celebrations, and crowds to major cities, especially Bogotá and Santa Marta, with potential roadblocks and increased security. Verify flight status with airlines, allow extra travel time, avoid large crowds and demonstrations, and monitor official advisories.

Reconsider travel due to crime, terrorism, civil unrest, kidnapping, and natural disasters. Violent crime including murder, assault, robbery, drugging, and armed break-ins occurs frequently. Terrorists may attack with little warning - car bombs, grenades, IEDs, and drones have been used.
