Do not travel to Lebanon due to crime, terrorism, unrest, kidnapping, landmines, and armed conflict. The U.S. government has limited ability to offer emergency services to U.S. citizens here, and U.S. Embassy Beirut personnel are restricted from personal travel throughout the country. Drone and missile strikes can occur throughout Lebanon, including Beirut, and the FAA advises caution for flights within 200 nautical miles of the Damascus Flight Information Region due to heightened military activity in or around Syria.
- Landmines and unexploded ordnance exist throughout Lebanon, especially near the Syrian border, south of the Litani river, and in refugee settlements - leave immediately if you find yourself in these areas.
- Terrorist groups including Hizballah, IRGC, ISIS, and Hamas continue plotting possible attacks with little or no warning at tourist locations, transit hubs, and markets.
- Choose one family member as a point of contact in case of kidnapping or hostage-taking, and have an evacuation plan that does not depend on U.S. government help.
