Reconsider travel due to crime, kidnapping, terrorism, poor health infrastructure, and now a major natural disaster. The June 24, 2026 earthquakes near Yaracuy have caused widespread casualties and infrastructure damage, including a shutdown of Caracas's Maiquetia Simon Bolivar International Airport. Some areas are Level 4 - Do Not Travel. The U.S. Embassy in Caracas is operating on an emergency-services-only basis following the quake, with routine consular services suspended; most services run through the U.S. Embassy in Bogota, Colombia.
- A powerful June 24, 2026 earthquake sequence has caused major damage and casualties - avoid damaged structures, expect airport and infrastructure disruption, and do not rely on U.S. government assistance for evacuation.
- Do Not Travel (Level 4) to: the Colombia border region (within 20 miles), Amazonas, Apure, Aragua (outside Maracay), rural Bolivar, Guarico, and Tachira states.

- Avoid unregulated taxis and ATMs at Maiquetia Simon Bolivar Airport, and avoid nighttime travel between cities.
- A visa is required and not available on arrival - travelers risk detention for entering without a valid Venezuelan visa.
- Enroll in STEP, establish a proof-of-life protocol with family, and have an emergency departure plan that does not rely on U.S. government help.
