Tip From The Editor (me): Since I spend a lot of my free time rock climbing, the limestone cliffs in this region are incredibly tempting. Even if you don’t climb, hike up to the higher limestone ridges at sunrise—the contrast of the bright red maples against the stark white rock is surreal.
5. Pocono Mountains, Pennsylvania
The Poconos are famous for their massive winter ski resorts, which means they are pretty quiet and heavily discounted during the early fall window. It is an incredibly accessible playground for anyone looking to escape the East Coast cities.
