If you’re itching to fly somewhere warm without breaking the bank, then now is a great time to explore Latin America!
With a mix of beautiful beaches and vibrant cities, great prices, and fascinating cultures, Latin America offers something for everyone.
What’s more, a whopping 5 new nonstop flight routes are being introduced from Florida to popular Latin American destinations that will make visiting the region even easier.
Here’s what you need to know:
Exciting New Flight Routes
There is a huge expansion taking place in flights between Florida and Latin America thanks to Avianca, the largest airline in Colombia and part of the Star Alliance network.
Avianca is introducing five new flight routes from airports across Florida to incredible destinations in Latin America.
The five new routes that you need to know about are:
- Fort Lauderdale to Managua, Nicaragua
- Fort Lauderdale to Medellin, Colombia
- Miami to San Jose, Costa Rica
- Miami to Guatemala City, Guatemala
- Tampa to Bogota, Colombia
Once all of these new flight routes are introduced, Avianca will operate 16 nonstop flight routes between Florida and Latin America, significantly increasing their reach in the region.
The most significant of these flight routes is the one between Tampa and Bogota. This will be a unique flight route and will also be the first direct flight route between Tampa and Latin America in almost 50 years.
It’s also an important route because Bogota is a major hub, and from here, travelers will have access to over 75 different destinations in 25 countries in both the Americas and Europe.
These new routes are set to begin in 2025, according to the official press release, but no official launch dates have been released yet. For this reason, I can’t give sample ticket prices because the tickets simply aren’t on sale yet!
Why Visit Latin America
Latin America is a great place for big adventures and is packed full of bucket list destinations.
The culture here is fascinating, and the Spanish and Portuguese invasions had a huge influence on both the culture and architecture in the region. The natural beauty of Latin America is abundant.
If the brand-new route to Bogota is appealing, then you’ll find so much to do in this exciting and sprawling city.
Not only is this a great value place to visit, but it also boasts fascinating museums, mouthwatering food and drink, and a vibrant nightlife.
The most famous museum in Bogota, and the one you really shouldn’t miss, is the Museo del Oro. This boasts the largest collection of prehispanic gold in the world, and it’s a shiny delight!
Admission costs COP $5,000 ($1.15), but admission is free every Sunday. Good to know if you’re counting every penny, but if you’re happy to pay the admission fee, then avoid visiting on Sundays when the crowd level is at its highest.
More interested in art and local culture? The Botero Museum in the heart of the city is also fascinating and offers free entry every day of the week. As the name suggests, this museum houses mostly works by Colombian artist Fernando Botero.
It’s also worth noting that the Andes mountains surround Bogota and many travelers consider the city the gateway to this iconic natural attraction. Because of its location at the foot of the Andes Mountain Range, Bogota is located at 2600m of altitude.
You can start in Bogota and take an Andes Mountain Tour. Andes EcoTours offers a variety of tours that allow you to experience all the different Andean ecosystems surrounding Bogotá. Incredible waterfalls, lush rainforests, and, of course, beautiful mountain ranges.
Hiking, trekking, and horseback riding are all popular options, with tours starting from $100 USD. You can choose a tour based on your ability and fitness levels, with options available for everyone.
If you’re based in Florida, then, to use an old pun, the world of Latin America is your oyster!
These 5 new flight routes mean that you can explore this fascinating and genuinely beautiful part of the world at your leisure.
