For the best views of brilliant fall foliage, there is no better place to explore than the scenic New England States. Imagine strolling along a leaf-littered trail with a cup of freshly pressed cider, weaving your way through a golden corn maze, and picking your Halloween Jack-O-Lantern from the festival pumpkin patch. Autumn comes to life in the northeast, especially in these seven incredible New England destinations. But before you go: please keep in mind that if you are traveling from another province, you may be required to provide proof of a negative covid test.

Newport, Rhode Island

Spend a weekend enjoying the crashing of the waves along the rocky Rhode Island coastline in Newport. Stroll along the 3.5 miles Cliff Walk to admire the spectacular view of the North Atlantic Ocean on one side, and stunning Gilded Age mansions on the other. You can tour through the enchanting gardens and luxurious interiors of these extravagant abodes from The Breakers to Marble House. In the evening, take your choice of fresh seafood and enjoy some of New England’s tastiest treats such as lobster roll and clam chowder. Real seafood lovers won't be able to resist the Annual Newport Seafood Festival on the waterfront in October. Be sure to check for local events such as boat shows, polo tournaments, and more!

Bar Harbour, Maine

A true fall favorite, Bar Harbor is the gem of Maine’s Mount Desert Island. Bordering the stunning Acadia National Park, Bar Harbour is surrounded by a rugged coastline and lush forest. Trek to the top of Cadillac Mountain to catch the sunrise over the ocean, and spend an afternoon admiring the Wild Gardens of Acadia or exploring the explosive Thunder Hole. Bring your binoculars to get a good look at the fall foliage as you hike the120 miles of trails in Acadia National Park.

White Mountains, New Hampshire

Get the best view of New Hampshire from the pinnacle of the awe-inspiring White Mountains in the White Mountains National Forest. Cruise the Kancamagus Scenic Byway, and pack a picnic lunch to enjoy along the way at the Lower Falls where you can stop for a refreshing dip in the swimming area. Make your way up to Flume Gorge at the end of the byway to stretch your legs along the 2-mile loop of the Flume Trail to admire the towering granite walls, roaring waterfall, and cascading stream. If you’re looking for a longer hike, up the mountainside and spend an evening in a cozy mountain cabin.

Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusets

For a relaxing getaway far from the hustle and bustle of the city, enjoy the solitude of island life on Martha’s Vineyard. Don’t be fooled by the name, you won't find any grapes growing on this Northern island – but you are welcome to bring a bottle of wine to sip at the seaside. The five charming lighthouses scattered across the island make great subject material for aspiring artists and backdrops for family photos. Embrace the culture and cuisine at the island’s annual Oyster Fest in October, and cycle out to the romantic Cape Poge Wildlife Refuge on Chappaquiddick island to make the most of your stay.

Burlington, Vermont

On the Vermont shores of lovely Lake Champlain, Burlington is an unmissable weekend getaway destination. The lake provides a sparkling reflection of the colorful Vermont countryside and presents unique opportunities to try a sailing lesson or round up some friends for a game of paddleboard polo. Take in the view of the lake as you cycle along the Island Line trail. Then load your bicycle aboard the bike ferry to explore the Champlain Islands. Kids can hit the beach and hike the rails at Alburg Dunes State Park, while mom and dad sample the local craft wines at Snow Farm Vineyard.

Mystic, Connecticut

This mysterious lesser-known Connecticut village is the perfect place for a quiet weekend getaway this fall. Set sail on the famous ARGIA sailboat to admire the historical port and surrounding islands of the beautiful bay. Admire the rugged coast from the ship's wooden prow, or get up close and personal with the unique flora and fauna at the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center. The whole family will enjoy a tour of the B.F Clyde’s Cider Mill to sample free wine and cider while you enjoy a demonstration of the cider-making process.

Baxter State Park, Maine

Nature lovers and hiking enthusiasts will feel right at home in the 6,000 acres of northern Maine woods, streams, rivers, and peaks at Baxter State Park. Make your way along the 215 miles of hiking trails and climb your way up to the summit of Maine’s tallest mountain – Mt. Katahdin – for a breathtaking panoramic view. Enjoy the peaceful countryside and keep an eye out for wildlife such as moose, black bear, white-tailed deer, and lynx as you camp out under the stars at one of the secluded backcountry campsites.
