American Airlines and JetBlue will be officially launching their partnership by offering nearly 80 codeshare flights and 33 new routes to their customers.
The partnership, concentrating predominantly on the Northeast markets of the U.S, will be offering codeshare flights and new routes to and from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), LaGuardia Airport (LGA), Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), and Boston’s Logan International Airport (BOS).
Codeshare flights will allow customers to book eligible flights directly through the website of either carrier.
The airlines have affirmed that customers will be able to earn points or miles with either carrier beginning this spring, and have the ability to redeem points or miles with either carrier in the future.
The partnership will also see the addition of 33 new routes to begin service this summer. American Airlines will be adding 18 new routes, while JetBlue will be adding 15 routes.
The airlines decision in forming a partnership is predicated on providing travelers with better travel choices and routes in a busy Northeast region, while also receiving an opportunity to showcase their brand to more travelers.
Speaking on the launch, American’s Chief Revenue Officer, Vasu Raja, stated:
“This is the first step to delivering the best customer proposition with the biggest network in New York and Boston. In the months ahead, we’ll continue to create a seamless experience that’s easy for our customers, supports our communities and leads to more growth for our team.”
On behalf of JetBlue, Head of Revenue and Planning, Scott Laurence, added:
“Our alliance with American opens the door for JetBlue to successfully enter into new markets, introducing more choices and our award-winning service and low fares to more customers. The alliance is also essential to getting our planes back in the air profitably and crewmembers working again.”
American’s alliance with JetBlue was initially announced last July, with a review completed by the Department of Transportation (DOT) last month.
American’s New Routes
Of American’s 18 new routes, six will be international and fly out of New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK) to:
Cali, Colombia (CLO), Bogota, Colombia (BOG), Medellin, Colombia (MDE), Santiago, Chile (SCL), St. Lucia (UVF) and Turks and Caicos (PLS).
American’s 12 new domestic routes will include:
Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) to:
Asheville, North Carolina (AVL), Columbus, Ohio (CMH), Jackson Hole, Wyoming (JAC) , Traverse City, Michigan (TVC), and Wilmington, North Carolina (ILM)
New York’s LaGuardia International Airport to:
Kansas City, Missouri (MCI), Key West, Florida (EYW), Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (MYR), Pensacola, Florida (PNS), Rapid City, South Dakota (RAP), and Savannah, Georgia (SAV).
New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK) to Orange County, California (SNA).
JetBlue’s New Routes
JetBlue’s 15 new routes are scheduled to begin in July and will include:
Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to:
Antigua (ANU), Aguadilla, Puerto Rico (BQN), Cartagena, Colombia (CTG), Martha’s Vineyard Airport (MVY), Nantucket Memorial Airport (ACK), Port-au-Prince, Haiti (PAP), Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic (POP), Seattle–Tacoma International Airport (SEA), St. Lucia (UVF) and St. Thomas (STT).
New York’s LaGuardia Airport (LGA) to:
Charleston International Airport (CHS) Denver International Airport (DEN) and Martha’s Vineyard Airport (MVY).
New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK) to:
Kalispell/Glacier Park International Airport (FCA) and Boise Airport (BOI).
Codeshare Flights to Begin Next Week
American customers will have access to 49 codeshare routes with JetBlue, while JetBlue customers will be given access to more than 25 routes with American.
Codeshare on domestic flights are currently available for purchase for bookings beginning February 25th.
Codeshare on international flights are expected to be available for purchase soon.
Members of both American’s AAdvantage and JetBlue’s TrueBlue programs will be eligible to earn points or miles on either carrier.
Additionally, customers will be able to redeem points or miles with either carrier in the near future, while the opportunity of recognizing American’s AAdvantage elite members and JetBlue Mosaic customers across both airlines is being explored.
