The first ever Casino in Hoi An, Vietnam has officially opened its doors. The Royal Game Club Casino by Synot Asean will cater to tourists that want to gamble while visiting the UNESCO protected Ancient Town. Hoi An has seen a large influx of visitors over the last 5 years which has seen the once sleepy fishing town become a tourism mecca. With over 3.5 million visitors per year, it was only a matter of time until the first Hoi An casino arrived. We were there on opening day to meet with the General Manager Amy and tour the new Royal Game Club.

Vietnam Gambling Laws
Gambling was illegal in Vietnam for centuries until recent government changes in 2018 have allowed for the opening of 8 casinos. These casinos are for foreign passport holders (international tourists). As part of a three year experiment that started in 2018, Vietnamese locals will be able to enter the casinos if they are able to show a minimum monthly income of 10 million dong ($450 usd) and are charged a 1 million dong entry tax.
YES it is LEGAL for international tourists to gamble and enter casinos in Vietnam.
Hoi An Casino Entry Requirements For International Tourists
In order to enter the Royal Game Club Hoi An Casino, you must be at least 21 years of age and present a valid international passport. An international drivers licence is also acceptable. You will be asked to sign in upon arrival. It will ask for your name, nationality and the time. You'll then pass through a metal detector to ensure no weapons enter the Hoi An casino.
How to get money for gambling
The Royal Game Club Casino only accepts and pays out in USD. If you do not have US dollars there are a few options. The first is to go to the second floor cashier and exchange Vietnam dong into US dollars. There is also an ATM outside of the Royal Hotel lobby that can you withdraw dong to exchange. The second option is to swipe your credit card at the cashier to get US cash. Note: They do not convert your USD winnings back into Dong.
Slot Machines and Electronic Roulette
On the third floor there are slot machines and computerized roulette tables. The slot machines are from the UK and are in English with easy to understand instructions. Two impressive large computerized roulette tables are in the center of the room. This floor also offers drinks and refreshments at the bar with a comfy sitting area.
Other Games
The other floors of the Casino house the tables. Games offered include Poker, Tiger & Dragon, Niu-Niu, Blackjack and Baccarat. The chairs are very comfortable and the staff working the tables are professional and friendly.
First Hoi An Casino Impressions
Walking into the Casino we were immediately greeted by friendly and welcoming staff. They make check in simple and quickly escort you to the floor of your choice whether it be the cashier, slot machines or the tables. The entire Casino is a smoking establishment so if you are sensitive to smoke, it may not be the best place for you. The cool air conditioning was a welcome reprieve from the blazing hot streets of Hoi An. While gambling you are offered complimentary water, soda, beer, coffee or tea. There are ample English speaking staff to cater to your every need and will answer any questions you may have.

If you love gambling then the Royal Game Club will definitely provide for a great night out. They provide loyalty perks and of course if you're hitting it hard, expect a complimentary room at the gorgeous Royal Hotel that is attached to the casino.
