Having being scheduled to open an air bridge with Singapore on the weekend – only for it to be cancelled with a day’s notice – the latest spike in Covid-19 cases has left travelers wondering when they’ll be able to visit the country.
Here’s all the latest COVID-19 entry requirements for Hong Kong and what travelers need to know before booking their trip.
Countries Allowed To Visit Hong Kong
Entry to Hong Kong from abroad is extremely limited. Those from mainland China, Taiwan and Macao are permitted to enter Hong Kong, providing they haven’t been to another country in the last 14 days.
All non-Hong Kong residents coming from overseas countries and regions by plane will be denied entry to the country.
Travel Authorization To Visit Hong Kong
Prior to arrival, all travelers must submit a health declaration form. Once the form is submitted it will generate a QR code; this must be shown to border control, and is valid for 48 hours. The form maybe be submitted online or physically.
Hong Kong's COVID-19 Testing Entry Requirements
All travelers must complete a nucleic acid Covid-19 test up to 72 hours before flying. It may be written in English or Chinese, and may be shown in paper or electronically. For those travelling from the UK, please note that the current NHS (National Health Service) tests does not meet the relevant requirements and will not be accepted.
Travelers must also complete a Covid-19 test upon arrival, and are required to wait for their results.
Quarantine Entry Requirements For Hong Kong
Both Hong Kong and non-Hong Kong residents arriving from mainland China, Macau, or Taiwan with no travel history to overseas countries and regions in the past 14 days will be subject to a 14-day compulsory quarantine. Travelers need to provide confirmation of a hotel booking for no less than 14 days starting on the day of their arrival.
COVID-19 Travel Insurance Entry Requirements
Insurance is not a conditional entry requirement, however all travelers should have medical insurance that covers COVID-19.
COVID-19 Health Requirements While in Hong Kong
Once in Hong Kong, mask wearing in all public spaces is compulsory, including on transport. Social distancing must be maintained at all times, and affects the capacity levels at restaurants and other establishments.
The government has also introduced a voluntary contact tracing app.
Hong Kong COVID-19 Vaccine Entry Requirements
A vaccine for COVID-19 is not yet available to the public. SIngapore has not announced any mandates on a proof of vaccine record (POVR) or an international certificate of vaccination or prophylaxis (ICVP) for entry
Visa Entry Requirements For Hong Kong During COVID-19
Those from overseas are not currently permitted to enter Hong Kong, and so there are no special visa requirements during this time.
