Beginning in 2019, it has been a 4 year undertaking for the exciting new port to be built in Nassau.
The capital of the Bahamas is already a hugely popular destination among cruise travelers, as it has been a bustling port city for 500 years!
This latest addition will only help attract even more tourists to what is already such a commonly visited place for vacationers, with over 3.5 million passengers annually.
In fact, Nassau set a new record for cruise passengers earlier this year, with over 28,000 served in just a single day!
Known all over the globe for immaculate blue waters, pristine beaches, and a beautiful, inviting culture, this nation of islands is set to enhance the experience even more.
The Bahamas are located a short flight away along the East Coast and the center of the U.S. from almost every major domestic airline.
Not all low-cost carriers will be an option, but Frontier does offer limited Bahamas routes. It’s extremely easy to reach by cruise as well from multiple ports in the U.S., especially Florida.
While there is so much to do and see in this gorgeous Caribbean nation, those behind the curtain of bringing the new port into existence expect it to be a standalone attraction.
Set in downtown Nassau, the port will face stiff competition from other tempting attractions nearby.
“Nassau Cruise Port will proudly showcase the best of The Bahamas over its 11 acres of reimagined waterfront development, creating a new downtown Nassau destination,” said Mike Maura Jr., Global Ports Holding Regional Director Americas and CEO of Nassau Cruise Port Ltd.

Mr. Maura continued, “We want each and every visitor to have a remarkable, memorable experience in Nassau, and we are excited to proudly display Bahamian goods, culture, and warm hospitality to our guests,”
What To Expect At The New Cruise Port
The Grand Opening of the new $300 million port is set for May 26, 2023. That’s quite a budget to make it a top attraction in what is already a touristy area!
There will be a celebration full of fun events, including a concert at the brand-new amphitheater spread across 2 days.
In the words of the team at Global Ports Holding, the idea is for the port to “be transformed into one of the great waterfronts of the world”.
The Nassau Cruise Port (NCP) is a gateway to the wonders of the Bahamas and the rest of the Caribbean.
Its sleek, modern design will magnetize visitors to congregate in wide open spaces and enjoy the plentiful food and beverage options on site.
Close attention to the finer details was made during construction. Shaded areas are provided for those hot summer days, especially for senior citizens and those with special needs.
Compared to the previous port, many improvements have been in place to better serve customers with updated signage and transportation options.
Coming from a taxi or bus will be a much smoother process, as there are now specific zones for both.
As if cruises aren’t expensive enough, travelers should come to the port with their credit cards ready.
The latest retail area has an excellent assortment of vendors to bring home fun souvenirs from local shops with Bahamian specialties.
All the prior piers have been repaired. A new berth was built and ready to ship off passengers to their favorite destinations across the ocean.
Up to 6 ships will be able to venture off each day to a variety of vacation hotspots.
