Playa Del Carmen officials shutdown the Grand Coral Hotel when they found the beach club operating as normal during stay at home orders.
Officials found dozens of people suntanning, drinking and enjoying the pool and beach areas of the hotel.
Nearly 40 people including both visitors and staff were found ignoring all social distancing rules and not wearing masks.
The hotel was found breaking numerous violations including operating during a time when non-essential businesses are prohibited from opening.
During the inspection, the manager opposed the closure and prevented prosecutors from passing until he understood that they had violated all federal, state and municipal health decrees.
The Municipal Inspection Directorate sent all guests and workers home for quarantine.
