If location is king, then Sun Island Seminyak wears the crown.
Inside the grounds, I felt like I was in my own private oasis, a Balinese secret garden. But just outside the gates I was immersed in everything that makes Seminyak the tourist hot spot it is. Restaurants with Instagram-able organic dishes, trendy shops with sweeping floral dresses, and street vendors selling all kinds of unique treasures.
My stay there was so good, I extended it last minute. There was no way I could leave so soon after discovering a perfect spot.
Any Bali bound travellers searching for that ideal balance of luxury and convenience, look no further. Sun Island Seminyak will be one of your new favourites too. In fact, I suggested it to friends on their honeymoon and after staying for a week, they voted it BEST value on the island.
Truth be told, it’s not an expensive hotel, especially when you consider all the amenities included. One of my missions in life is to find luxury for less, which is another reason I’m enamoured with this property.

The ROOM: Deluxe Pool Villa
First things first, let’s talk about the Deluxe Pool Villa itself, which is simply blissful.
My husband and I were escorted down a winding path, full shaded by tree canopies and fallen leaves. We came to our villa’s door which was dark brown and had fresh white flowers attached to the knocker. Through the door, our jaws dropped as we entered our own oasis. Tropical plants, stepping stones, lounge chairs, and a private pool with a waterfall feature, all kept secret by stone walls.
Through a wall of glass doors that can be fully opened, we came inside our indoor living space. Cool tiled floors, a comfy sectional couch, dining table for 4 and even a kitchenette. Large windows with garden features just beyond the glass that made the inside feel just as tropical as outside.
Passing through another door was the master retreat. A king bed that looked directly through large glass doors onto the private pool. Around each side of the bed was an entry into the master bathroom, which was as big as another bedroom itself. Oversized walk in shower with outdoor features, soaker tub with bath salts and flowers, and double sinks with natural light pouring down from the ceiling.
Every comfort was taken into consideration, from the extra bottled water, to the substantial amount of bathroom amenities.
Paradise, but still felt like ‘home’.

The LOCATION: Heart of Seminyak
Many hotel reviews all say the same thing…”location was great!”, but what does that really mean? Great for what?
What makes Sun Island Seminyak’s location great is this: From my villa I can’t hear a peep, but mere steps outside my door I am surrounded by hustle and bustle.
The grounds aren’t vast, but somehow they make it look like you are in your own tropical jungle. It’s a tiny slice of heaven tucked on the busiest street in Seminyak.
One of my pet peeves is a resort that takes 15 minutes just to walk off the grounds. You know, the massive giants that are more like compounds?
This hotel is not like that at all.
It takes a record 60 seconds to get to the front gate, and out into the action. Steps from the front door I can get a $10 massage, go for Fro Yo, east Sushi, buy a $1 DVD (come on, you do it too) and haggle for crochet hammocks. No car needed. No heat stroke hikes to civilization.
Need something from the Bintang? It’s about a 3 minute walk to stock up on groceries or sunblock.
Heading back onto the hotel’s property, the sound of honking taxi’s fade away and are replaced with water fountains and tropical birds. From inside the walls, you wouldn’t be able to tell there was a busy city just steps away.
At Sun Island Seminyak, I could have it all. The buzzing city life AND the tranquil escape. Not a lot of hotels in Bali can provide that delicate balance.
The PERKS: Luxurious Extras
Turn-Down:
Sun Island Seminyak knows how to do turn down like the pros. Each night we returned to the privacy shades drawn, lights dimmed, towels replaced, bed turned down, and a home-made delectable dessert.
Afternoon Tea:
Nothing compliments an afternoon quite like high tea. We were able to choose from tea, cappuccino or coffee, plus an assorted of canapés. Spring rolls, mini skewers, chocolate dipped fruit and small cakes.
Breakfast:
Banana French toast and delicious eggs Benedict. Included and unlimited. Need I say more?
The PRICE:
Considering the location, the private pool, and the accommodating staff, you’d think this would be an spurge stay. Not at all.
You can find villas starting at $160 USD a night, which is a steal compared to similar hotels.
