Those of us who follow travel news like a hawk were sorely disappointed to learn of the delay pushing off a new “sleeper train” connecting 2 of America's most iconic cities.
Taking a page out of Europe's playbook, it has been long overdue for such exciting transit methods to make their way to the motherland.
In typical American style, the ribbon-cutting ceremony was scratched due to a variety of unforeseen issues.
Initially planned for a 2024 launch, this highly anticipated overnight train will arrive fashionably late with even better upgrades as more time has passed to fine tune the minute details.
Most travelers may be focused on their next winter escape, but it's never too early to circle your calendar.
With an unofficial date targeting Summer 2025, the West Coast just became more exciting.
Reaching Los Angeles and San Francisco no longer requires a flight or lengthy road trip as Dreamstar Lines will be launching an luxury overnight train connecting this pair of American icons so you can ‘rediscover the joy of the journey'.
No More Red Tape: Far-Fetched Dreams Will Soon Become A Reality
Had Dreamstar chosen Philly to New York, Austin to Dallas, or Portland to Seattle, this far-fetched dream may have already become a reality.
Unfortunately, Dreamstar chose LA to San Fran, which just so happens to be a state known for taking their sweet time with new projects.
Designing state-of-the-art cabins, finding usable tracks, and ensuring the safety of passengers isn't exactly an easy task.
Delays may have been inevitable in hindsight, but it appears the train is quite literally on track for Summer 2025, at least according to local news source Fox LA.
Sleep In Luxury And Hit The Ground Running
Not many details have leaked regarding the amenities of Dreamstar's new train. In fact, their entire website is a tease with each category simply stating, “coming soon”.
What we do know is they have taped BMW with the design of the carts, where there is expected to be plush suites in First Class, standard seating and bedrooms for Economy, and a separate cart featuring a lounge with open seating.
Of course, all carts will be equipped with restrooms, but no official word if First Class will be the only class with private access.
The point of booking this type of travel is to avoid the hassle. As someone who has taken a road trip from San Diego to San Francisco, it's not the easiest or most enjoyable route.
Trust me; you'll know when you've reached Bakersfield simply from the smells.
Even though flying between LA and San Francisco is a relatively short distance, dealing with TSA, potential delays, and uncomfortable Red Eyes is a drag.
Dreamstar's new concept is to allow travelers to sleep in luxury on what's essentially a hotel on rails, where you can arrive well rested and hit the ground running.
There's also no updates regarding ticket prices, but our last report confirmed prices to range anywhere from $300 – $1000, which are unlikely to beat Amtrak's fares, but you can't beat the cushy amenities.
Is It Worth The Wait?
Travel between LA and San Fran can be a headache, but one might wonder why you'd want to visit either city given how both have been bashed in negative headlines.
Over the past few years, each city has undergone what many would say is a backwards transformation.
A simple scroll through TikTok may show zombie-like streets, rampant crime, and small businesses shuttering.
It remains to be seen if either city will reach their glory days again. While there are still many awesome places to visit, no traveler wants to keep their head on a swivel trying to enjoy their vacation.
For what it's worth, National Geographic swears by LA's comeback in 2025. San Francisco, though?
Well, check out popular YouTuber, Pete Santenello's latest video in his search to answer that very question.
Spoiler alert: it appears the Bay's golden child is back on the up and up.
No matter which California city you're off to, you can leave airport hassles, I-5 traffic, and losing half a day of travel in the rear-view mirror.
