Cancun

Surrounded by beaches and a culture that’s almost contagious, it’s no surprise that this city in Mexico takes the top spot for American travelers this winter. As one of the cheapest destinations to fly south of the border, flights can be found right now for under $300 roundtrip.

Cancun is a huge draw for almost every type of travel. With its array of resorts, it’s an ideal vacation getaway for families and couples, but the buzzing nightlife is also a draw to solo travelers and those looking for an annual girls' trip.

On the Yucatan Peninsula, Cancun sits perfectly along the Caribbean Sea. With a vibrant beach-front strip, an abundance of water sports, and crystal-clear waters, this Mexican city may have it all.

Miami

Known as one of the party capitals of the U.S., Miami offers an entertaining atmosphere year-round.

With the largest population of Cuban Americans, it’s easy to feel like you’ve left the States entirely when you visit. These Hispanic influences have made their way into the foods, culture, and nightlife.

Miami Beach is famous for attracting spring break party-goers in the Spring, but the beaches are just as beautiful in the winter months.

With an average in the mid-70s during the end of December, it’s still possible for visitors to visit the beautiful beaches and enjoy the charming restaurants in the evening.

London

Europe’s melting pot of cultures, London is home to people from all over the world. Walking along the streets, you’ll see almost every cuisine imaginable with global influences.

While tempting to visit any time of the year, one of the most magical seasons to visit London is in the winter. The entire city goes above and beyond in terms of Christmas light decoration, and cozy markets make their homes in various neighborhoods.

Afternoon tea, Christmas decor spotting, and ice-skating in the city, London goes all out during the winter months. Even something as simple as walking through the delightful neighborhoods of Notting Hill and Kensington can feel like a festive movie.

New York

Similar vibes to London, New York is a star-studded city filled with endless possibilities.

Every year, tourists are attracted to the wintery pop-ups, Rolf’s German restaurant (aka the most festive restaurant in the city), over-the-top bar displays, Rockefeller Center ice-skating, and seasonal lights.

Prices definitely increase this time of year, so it’s best to book ahead of time. If you’re planning to stay for the New Year and the infamous ball drop, it’s especially important to find a good deal ASAP!

Tokyo

Maybe a little more surprising than the rest, Tokyo makes it to the top 5 for best destinations this year.

When people think of Tokyo, they typically think of cherry blossom season and the spring/summer months, but wintertime is taking over!

With snow-capped mountains and hearty food to keep you warm, the city is a picturesque winter wonderland this season. Instead of blossoms, you’ll see bright lights strewn throughout the city and around the trees.

The winter also hosts some of the best festivals in Tokyo!
