Planning a summer vacation is never easy, especially if you’re thinking of traveling abroad – after all, this is arguably the longest, most expensive trip you’re going to take all year, so it’s extra important to make sure it’s worth it!

Sure, you could play it safe and flock to the sun-kissed shores of Cancun, Punta Cana, or Montego Bay, but before you make a decision, you need to know that there are plenty of gorgeous (albeit far lesser-known) beaches you can find right across the Atlantic.

That’s right, those who can’t seem to decide between a cultural retreat and a beachy getaway this summer won’t have to since many sunny European hubs offer all that and more.

In fact, Booking Retreats just published its newest report on the best beaches on the continent to visit this summer, ranking them based on criteria like popularity, accessibility, climate, safety, and water quality.

Below, you’ll find the places that made it to the top 7 and, I’m gonna tell you right off the bat, Spain was crowned the ultimate summer destination with not one, not two, but three entries on the list.

So, without further ado, let’s get started!

7. Tuerreda Beach, Italy

A world of fresh seafood, white-sanded beaches, and shots of Mirto await those lucky enough to vacation in Sardinia this summer, which also happens to be the home of Tuerreda, one of the most stunning beaches you’ll ever come across.

Over 14,000 Google reviewers have raved about the translucent-looking water, soft, clean sand, and vast open space where everyone can just bring a towel and umbrella and relax – definitely something you’ll want to experience at least once in a lifetime.

6. Cala Comte, Spain

Spain’s first representative on the list is Cala Comte, which, while no. 6 today, is thousands of travelers’ favorite summertime escape in the whole world.

Whether you’re just an avid beachgoer like me or a photographer (or social media person) looking to take some of the most stunning pictures during your European summer getaway, this is the place to be, especially after the sun sets into the sea and the sky gets painted with the brightest hues of orange and pink.

5. Lama Monachile, Italy

Lama Monachile is hands-down one of the Adriatic’s most gorgeous beaches, featuring the type of rugged cliffs and crystal-clear waters you usually only get to see in movies.

Sand lovers be warned, though – the shore here is pebbled; though that can be a great advantage for those sick of having to clean sand off their bodies and clothes (and even bedding!) all summer long.

The whitewashed buildings overlooking the entire beach perfectly complement the vibe, which can only be described as quintessentially Italian.

4. Las Canteras Beach, Spain

Located in Gran Canaria, which was just named Europe’s best destination for digital nomads, Las Canteras is the perfect place for the stressed-out worker, offering a laid-back yet lively experience that’s guaranteed to help you relax.

Whether you just want to lounge around on the golden sand or go snorkeling in the inviting waters of the Atlantic, you’ll have the time of your life on this fantastic Spanish beach.

3. Pasjača Beach, Croatia

The No. 3 spot on today’s list is also one of my personal favorites since it invites travelers to explore Europe beyond its more typical summer hubs.

Croatia is home to some of the continent's most underrated beaches, and Pasjača is the perfect example.

A secluded paradise that lies across the Adriatic, this beach promises the jaw-dropping views you’re looking for without all the crowds (and noise and pollution that comes along with them).

2. Praia da Falésia, Portugal

The list wouldn’t be complete without an entry from one of Europe’s hottest destinations of the moment – Portugal.

Stretching for 3.7 miles (6 kilometers), Praia da Falésia is a Blue Flag-certified beach famous for its sandstone cliffs, quiet, untouched shores, and sublime weather (think temperatures that hover around 82.4°F (28°C).

1. La Concha Beach, Spain

Found in the picturesque city of San Sebastián, La Concha Beach is officially the ultimate place to be this summer.

The crescent-shaped shoreline is lined with lush green hills and buzzing promenades – if that doesn’t seem like the ultimate summer retreat, I don’t know what does.

Those looking to do something beyond lounging around all day (though that’s what I’d do), can take advantage of the city’s avid water sports scene, complete with everything from paddle boarding and kayaking to jet skiing and windsurfing.
