For many travelers, the Caribbean is their definition of paradise. With its unspoiled beaches, laid-back lifestyle and warm, welcoming locals that can help to turn any trip from good to great, it is hard to disagree. However, for many travelers, large swathes of the Caribbean have been off-limits, as islands closed their borders to stop Covid-19 from spreading further.
However, the situation facing the world now is completely different to the one this time last year and, as a result, more and more Caribbean destinations are dropping their restrictions and beginning to reopen – here’s what you need to know.
Anguilla’s Updates – Information For Travelers
Known around the world for its spectacular coral reefs and sweeping, white-sanded beaches, Anguilla was recently awarded Level 1 status by the CDC, which means there are low levels of Covid-19 in the country. As a result, the island has launched a new tourism campaign designed to revive the industry and bring travelers back to its shores in a safe, controlled manner.
Launching the travel campaign with the slogan “Lose the Crowd. Find Yourself”, Anguilla has updated its entry requirements to make it easier for vaccinated travelers to enter the country. From July 1st, those who are vaccinated at least three weeks before their arrival on the island will not have to go through quarantine. Whilst they must still apply for entry and have a test prior to their arrival, they do not have to be tested upon arrival and will not have proof of health insurance.
Unvaccinated travelers must still apply for entry and secure health insurance. On top of this, they will need to test both before arriving and upon arrival, and will have to stay in quarantine for 10-14 days depending upon the situation in their country of origin.
Guadeloupe and Martinique Open For US Travelers
The list of countries now opening their doors to American travelers has grown further, with the two French Caribbean territories of Guadeloupe and Martinique reopening for Americans as a result of France placing the US on its “green” list. Comprised of several blissful islands, Guadeloupe is the textbook Caribbean archipelago, with its crystal waters, palm-lined beaches and rolling green mountains. Martinique, on the other hand, is a rugged island, with unrivalled natural beauty that has been sorely missed by travelers throughout the pandemic.
In order to be able to enter both of these territories, travelers must ensure that they arrive with a PCR test taken less than 72 hours before boarding, or an antigen test taken up to 48 hours prior to boarding, Unvaccinated travelers will then be subjected to self-isolation for a period of 7 days, whilst vaccinated travelers are exempt from this restriction. Vaccinated travelers are counted as those who arrive as least two weeks after their second dose of double-dose vaccines, or those who arrive four weeks after their single-dose vaccine.
British Virgin Island Updated Restrictions – What Travelers Should Know
Popular with yachting enthusiasts, the British Virgin Islands have also relaxed their restrictions for vaccinated travelers recently. Whilst unvaccinated travelers still need to test upon arrival to the country and quarantine for 7 days, vaccinated travelers may simply skip these requirements – though they must still provide an RT-PCR test or an approved rapid antigen test within five days of arriving. Those who are partially vaccinated must submit results of a PCR test within five days of travel, as well as a PCR test or rapid antigen test upon arrival, and will also need to quarantine for a period of four days.
