Let's be real for a moment. Planning a trip should be exciting, but finding the right hotel can quickly turn that excitement into a headache. You fire up your favorite booking website, full of optimism. “I'll just find a quick, cheap room,” you tell yourself. Three hours later, you're 57 tabs deep, staring at a blurry photo of a questionable “sea view” room, and you've completely forgotten your own name. The endless scrolling, the confusing filters, the pop-ups yelling “12 people are looking at this right now!”

I was stuck in this cycle for years. My vacation planning always started with a jolt of excitement and quickly devolved into a marathon of digital frustration. But recently, I stumbled upon a new method, a secret weapon that has completely changed the game for me. I’ve waved goodbye to the big booking platforms like Booking and Expedia for my searches, and my travel planning has never been more fun or efficient. My secret? I let a friendly AI do all the initial legwork.

My Personal Travel Assistant
My new process starts with Gemini, the AI tool from Google. Think of it as a super-smart travel agent who works for free and is available 24/7. Instead of me trying to teach a clunky website what I want through a series of checkboxes, I just have a conversation with it. I tell it exactly what I'm looking for in plain English, just like I would with a person.
It’s a refreshingly simple approach. I’m no longer the one doing the heavy lifting, scrolling through hundreds of options that don't quite fit. The AI sifts through the noise and presents a curated list of hotels that actually match my vibe and my budget. It’s like having a personal concierge who actually listens.

How to Craft the Perfect Prompt
The magic is all in how you ask. The more details you provide, the better your results will be. You can simply copy and paste the template below and fill in your own details. It’s that easy!
Here’s an example of what I’d type into the chat for a trip I have coming up to Los Cabos:
- Destination: Los Cabos, Mexico
- Dates of travel: August 8th to August 13th
- Number of people: 2 adults
- Budget: Around $300-$500 USD per night
- Amenities wanted: I want a beachfront, all-inclusive resort with swim-up bar
- Location: Preferably within walking distance of downtown Cabo San Lucas.
- Type of room: 1 King bed and swim out if possible!

Within seconds, a list of perfect options materializes, each with a little summary of why it’s a great match. It might point out one resort known for its incredible swim-up bar and social atmosphere, while highlighting another that offers the exact king bed swim-out suite I asked for, all just a short walk from the energy of downtown. I’ve already saved myself hours of tedious searching.

Finding the Rock-Bottom Price
Now for the final, and most satisfying, step. Once you've got a few hotels that you're excited about, it's time to find the absolute best price. This part is brilliantly simple and feels like the best travel hack yet!
- First, pick your favorite hotel from the list Gemini gave you.
- Next, open up a new tab and simply type the name of the hotel directly into the Google search bar. For example, “Corazón Cabo Resort & Spa”
- Voilà! Google will instantly pull up a special booking module showing you all the different platforms that list your chosen hotel. You'll see prices from the hotel's own website, Booking.com, Expedia, and others, all in one clean list.
- Finally, enter your dates and choose the cheapest option. Done.

You’ve just bypassed all the filtering and scrolling on multiple sites and jumped straight to the finish line. You've not only saved a ton of time but you’ve also ensured you're getting the best possible price without having to manually compare a dozen different websites. It’s fast, it’s efficient, and dare I say, it’s actually fun. Give it a try on your next trip; you might just break up with your old booking habits for good. Now if only we could do that for Airbnbs as well! Unfortunately not yet.

Tried your approach and pasted the prompt into Gemini. Didn't work and couldn't find any properties, or confirm swim up bar. Care to elaborate how exactly you got your beautiful answers?

Sometimes Gemini needs to be nudged again. If you reply and clarify. "I only want hotels with swim-up bars" it will answer again zoning in on that one specific topic.

Why would you use Gemini instead of ChatGPt? Curious, but I am new to AI tools. Thank you!

Better to book with a booking platform that offers price matching AND rewards points. Book through that platform and then use Google to find the best price for the same dates: only takes a couple minutes to file the price-match form and you get the difference refunded PLUS the points which can be about 10% of the cost of the booking. It all works out to the best rate and essentially get the 10th night free.
