Here are 10 lesser-known things to do in or around Seattle, Washington that are perfect for a romantic outing or date night. In addition to being more off the beaten track than classic attractions such as the Space Needle, many of these also don’t require reservations very far in advance (or at all).
1. Go Hot Tub Boating
If you’re looking for a relaxing and incredibly unique date idea, consider renting a hot tub boat. You’ll be able to cruise around Lake Union while enjoying a soak, and the company also offers several additional add ons to the experience such as their date night package, which includes Epsom salts, rose petals decorating the water, and an assortment of handcrafted chocolates. This is one that you’ll probably have to book a couple of weeks in advance, but this all-around amazing experience is worth it.
2. Explore Discovery Park
If you and your partner enjoy nature, consider spending an afternoon exploring Discovery Park. This gorgeous slice of wilderness sits on the shore of Puget Sound and is home to several hiking trails as well as scenic viewpoints and historic lighthouse. It's also only about 15 minutes from downtown Seattle, making this a great option if you aren't looking to travel too far.
3. Go On A Romantic Cruise
If you and your partner feel like you’ve pretty much explored the city of Seattle, why not mix things up by heading out onto Puget Sound? Several groups in the area offer a variety of cruises off the Seattle shore, most lasting a few hours. Soundview Cruises, for example, offers a selection of cruises including a sunset cruise or a wine tasting cruise. This is another one that you will need to book ahead of time, but can typically book only a few days ahead of time.
4. Enjoy A Drink At mbar
Take in gorgeous views of the city and enjoy some delicious Mediterranean food with your loved one at this rooftop bar and restaurant. Due to COVID-19 precautions, timed reservations are currently required, but can often be booked day of. Proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test is also being requested at this time.
5. Make A Custom Candle
Bring out your and your partner’s creative sides with a visit to Elm Candle Bar. This candle shop offers a lot more than your traditional shopping experience- you can create custom candles yourself at the store. This could be a great option for both a one-of-a-kind gift, or simply a fun bonding experience. Reservations can be made online, but Elm Candle Bar is also currently welcoming walk-ins as capacity allows.
6. Go On A Hot Air Balloon Ride
Does cruising over the Seattle skyline with your significant other sound romantic to you? If so, consider booking a hot air balloon ride with one of the companies in Seattle, such as Seattle Ballooning. This one does require a bit more planning, with private tours typically booking a month or two out.
7. Enjoy A Meal At Dreamland Bar and Diner
Looking for some unique ambiance and a romantic dinner? Check out Dreamland Bar and Diner. With colorful lighting throughout the restaurant and a hallway filled with disco balls, Dreamland definitely lives up to its name. Dreamland offers both indoor and patio seatings, and reservations can be made online. With the exception of weekends, reservations are usually available day of or a few days in advance.
8. Have Dinner At Smith Tower Observatory
When it comes to viewing Seattle from above, the Space Needle is definitely the most recognizable option. It’s not the only one, however. If you’re looking to enjoy the city lights in a different way, check out Smith Tower Observatory. It offers an open-air viewing deck as well as a restaurant and bar that are perfect for a romantic dinner. Tickets up to the observatory are currently on a first-come, first-serve basis.
9. Stop By Treat Cookies
If you’re looking for a casual but memorable date idea, check out Treat Cookies. This bakery not only offers a wide variety of delicious baked goods but also gorgeous pastel pink decor inside. Grab some treats for the road, or enjoy them in-store.
10. Enjoy A Vacation (Or Staycation) At Cedarbrook Lodge
Cedarbrook Lodge is a gorgeous hotel that sits on 18 acres of wetlands. This proximity to nature allows the lodge to feel far more remote than it actually is – it’s only a few minutes away from the airport. This upscale hotel not only offers comfy and modern rooms, but also a high-quality spa that is perfect for you and your partner to enjoy a relaxing afternoon at.
