The West Coast, spanning from Washington State to California, is full of interesting roadside attractions. Here are the top 10 attractions you won't miss on your next west coast road trip.
1. Beasts of Borrego Springs
Located in Borrego Springs, CA, this roadside attraction features over 100 metal sculptures placed throughout the desert. The sculptures consist of a variety of subjects. Some of the sculpture subjects include, but are not limited to dinosaurs and a sea serpent, making this a great spot to take some fun and memorable photos.
2. Bigfoot Discovery Museum
The Bigfoot Discovery Museum is home to tons of exhibits and artifacts related to the legendary creature, including videos, a sighting map, and footprint casts. The museum has free admission, with the possibility to leave a donation. They are located in Felton, CA, and are currently open every day except Tuesday from 11 am to 6 pm, so be sure to check them out!
3. The Mystery Spot
Nestled amongst the red woods in Santa Cruz, CA, the Mystery Spot is an interesting attraction with equally interesting lore. Advertised as a gravitational anomaly, there's a ton of theories behind how it supposedly works, ranging from an optical illusion to supernatural effects. They are currently open to the public. However, the Mystery Spot currently has decreased tour sizes and is requiring staff and guests to wear face masks.
4. Ostrich Land USA
This unique attraction offers the opportunity to both view and feed the ostriches and emus that call this Buellton, CA ranch home. In addition to getting to see the birds themselves, the site also features a gift shop where you can pick up a variety of Ostrich-related items, including edible ostrich eggs!
5. The Fremont Troll
If you’re traveling through or planning a trip to, Seattle, head on over to the Fremont neighborhood to see this iconic sculpture. Constructed in 1990, the Fremont troll has been lurking under Aurora Bridge ever since and has become a popular sightseeing and photography attraction.
6. The World's Tallest Barber Pole
This 72-foot tall barber pole is located in Forest Grove, Oregon. The pole has held the Guinness World record for being the tallest of its kind for several years, making it a fun and quirky sightseeing attraction to add to your itinerary.
7. Hats N Boots
Here’s another fun roadside attraction near Seattle. Consisting of a giant sculpture of a cowboy hat and boots, this attraction was originally built as a themed gas station. The gas station has since closed, and the sculptures were moved to their permanent home in Oxbow Park, where you can stop by to see them!
8. Ye Olde Curiosity Shop
If you’re looking for a quirky and memorable stop, check out Ye Olde Curiosity Shop in Seattle. The shop features oddities such as mummies and two-headed cows, as well as offering a variety of eccentric souvenirs for sale. This means you can look forward to not only viewing the variety of interesting exhibits but also taking some interesting trinkets to remember the trip back home with you!
9. The Cyclisk
This obelisk might look mysterious, but it isn’t made out of any strange material – in fact, it’s made entirely out of bicycle parts. Located in Santa Cruz, California, the Cyclisk stands a whopping 65’ high and is made out of over 300 bicycles.
10. Tour Thru Tree
Drive through a real, living tree at this tourist attraction! Located in Klamath, California, Tour Thru Tree is an ancient redwood that has a car-sized hole in the center. A word of advice – larger cars may not fit through the tree, but you can still check it out by foot!
