This remarkable place is located halfway between Homestead and Leisure City. The coral castle was built by Ed Leedskalnin, a Latvian immigrant. It took Leedskalnin over 20 years to build this castle made from 1,100 tons of coral rock. You can also learn all about the legend of Leedskalnin and the castle he built for his lost love.

Learn the Legend of Spook Hill

This fall, you can enjoy the Halloween season at Spook Hill. In Lake Wales, there is a gravity hill that is magnetic and causes visitors to see many optical illusions. Visitors claim that they see objects such as cars to appear as if they are rolling uphill- as if pushed by supernatural forces. Local legends say it is the supernatural forces of an ancient Indian Chief that once lived there.

See Venomous Snakes From Around the World

Snake lovers will enjoy a visit to the Reptile World Serpentarium. There are more than 80 species of snakes here, including a 13 foot king cobra, a black mamba, 11 kinds of rattlesnakes plus Florida’s four venous snakes. The Serpentarium hosts venom extractions twice daily for those interested in the science of the species.

Those that love to spend time in the water with marine life should visit Manatee Springs State Park. In the summertime, visitors can swim in the summer with beautiful manatees. Kayaking in the park is allowed year round, and these magnificent creatures often approach people and say hello in their own way.

Scuba or Snorkel at Devil’s Den

Devil’s Den Spring is an awesome place for scuba and snorkeling. This unusual spot is located near Williston and has a pleasant year round 72 degree average temperature. In the winter, you will marvel at the steam that rises from the cave’s ‘chimney’. This is the reason why the early settlers named the place Devil’s Den.

Interact with Wolf Packs

There is a giant 400 acre preserve in Chipley where you can see and interact with displaced wolves. Seacrest Wolf Preserve has wolves from all over the United States and Canada. Besides wolves, the preserve has other animals including foxes, skunks, and racoons. Visitors are even welcome to interact with all the different species during the two and a half hour tour.

Stay Underwater in a Unique Hotel

The Cruger-dePeyster Sugar Mill Ruins are located in New Smyrna Beach, the second oldest city in Florida. This sugar plantation, established in 1830, is 600 acres of land bought by Henry Cruger and William dePeyster and burned down during the Second Seminole War in 1835. This area has been on the list of US National Register of Historic Places since 1970 and is a great place to learn about early Florida history.

Visit the Home of Famous Beat Author Jack Kerouac

The Jack Kerouac House in Orlando, is where the famous beat author lived and wrote one of his most famous works, The Dharma Bums. Now this home is a writer’s residency for the Kerouac Project, a residency for aspiring writers, since 2000. The house also hosts many literary events throughout the year.
