The carrier will serve three nonstop routes from Detroit, New York (JFK), and Atlanta
Delta Airlines announced on Friday that starting on November 19 they will be offering new nonstop flights from Atlanta to Maui and from Detroit to Honolulu. On December 19 another route will be added: from New York (JFK) to Honolulu. Great news for U.S. citizens looking for warm destinations during winter.
Once these routes start operating, Delta explained that they will become the only airline offering Hawaiian destinations from Atlanta and Detroit, providing its customers more opportunities to enjoy the beautiful Hawaiian beaches, outdoor activities, and pleasant weather to escape low temperatures in other locations in the United States.
Joe Esposito, Delta’s Senior Vice President, mentioned in the press release that they wanted to offer more options for winter and a special destination: “Breathtaking beaches, a vibrant culture, and a competitive economy make Hawaii a highly sought-after destination for families and adventurists alike.”
Now that Hawaii removed testing and quarantine requirements for vaccinated travelers with boosters, American travelers can take advantage of Delta’s new flights and start planning their next trip for the holidays.
All You Need to Know About The New Routes
With the new routes, Delta will serve in total 18 daily nonstop flights to Hawaii during winter, from seven cities in the United States: Atlanta, Los Angeles, Detroit, Minneapolis, Seattle, New York, and Salt Lake City.

What You Should Know Before Traveling to Hawaii
All these daily flights starting in winter are part of the strategy of many airlines preparing for high-demand of warm weather in the future, and taking advantage of the current low Covid restrictions to recover from the pandemic crisis.
More North Americans are eager to visit warm destinations and Hawaii offers lovely weather for Christmas and New Year holidays. According to the Hawaii Guide, the temperature in December usually sits at the low 80ºF (26ºC) and the ocean remains warm. Travelers can expect a few rainy days, but “showers tend to come in short little bursts”, says the reporter Victoria C. Derrick.
Regarding COVID restrictions, these are the main considerations at the moment:
- Travelers with boosters won’t need to take tests or go into quarantine.
- US citizens from domestic locations must demonstrate vaccination proof or show a negative covid test taken up to 72 hours before arrival. If not, a 5-day quarantine will be required.
- Masks are still mandatory indoors and their recommended use may vary according to the county.
- The island of Maui requires the booster dose to consider travelers fully vaccinated and visitors without booster will be required to present a negative covid test even to enter some installations.
Travelers who want to take advantage of Delta’s new flights to visit Hawaii must stay up to date with travel restrictions, but at the moment most strict rules are being removed.
