Travelers planning on attending either a Disney theme park or a Disney cruise ship will be relieved to know that the brand has set to remove several of its Covid-19 related restrictions.
The planned easing of restrictions later this month is set to once more make the experience of Disney just as magical as it was prior to the pandemic – for both children and adults alike.
Like most businesses around the world, Disney was subjected to a range of tough restrictions that saw trips to its theme parks and cruises lose some of their trademark magic and sparkle – but the improvement of the pandemic situation in the US has thankfully seen most of these tough restrictions removed. Here's a closer look at which restrictions have been removed, and which are set to remain in place for a short while longer.
Disney Repeals Restrictions – Information For Travelers
For the millions of travelers who pass through the gates at Disney's various resorts or take a cruise on its ships, the excitement of seeing their favorite movie characters brought to life and being able to meet and interact with them is one of the major attractions. The last two years though have deprived travelers of the opportunity to get too close to their heroes, with social distancing measures firmly in place to keep Covid-19 from spreading.
However, a recent announcement by the company has brought about some good news for Disney enthusiasts and travelers alike – hugs are back on the menu. From April 18th, Disney will start reintroducing traditional character greetings at Disneyland (in California) and Walt Disney World Resorts, as well as aboard Disney Cruise Line and at Aulani Resort in Hawaii, sprinkling a generous handful of magic back on proceedings at venues across the brand.
Writing about it in the official Disney Parks blog, Shawn Slater, senior communications manager for Disney Live Entertainment, said:
“During the past two years, we've taken a very gradual, intentional approach to health and safety protocols. Recent trends and guidance have provided opportunities for us to bring back some of our most beloved magic, like character greetings and dining experiences. While not all locations will be available immediately, we anticipate reopening in phases throughout the spring and early summer.”
That's not the only change coming Disney's way this month. The company is also repealing several Covid-19 related restrictions on board its cruise ships, bringing the Disney cruising experience back to how it was before the pandemic. Amongst the changes being made is the removal of social distancing requirements, the return of self-service buffets on its ships, and removing the need to wear face-coverings in any indoor areas onboard – making the idea of a Disney cruise a much more appealing proposition for travelers.
Such changes come just days after the CDC removed all of its travel warnings for cruise ships. Whereas just a few months ago cruise ships were deemed to carry a Level 4 risk for passengers – the highest level possible – the CDC has since removed its Travel Health Notice, meaning that it will not advocate against travelers boarding a cruise for the first time in several months.
Some restrictions are set to remain on Disney Cruise Line sailings that passengers will need to be aware of. All travelers eligible for the vaccine must be vaccinated against Covid-19 in order to sail. On top of this, all travelers must also take a Covid-19 test at the terminal prior to boarding to ensure the cruise is as safe as possible for its guests. Disney also recently removed the mask mandate for vaccinated guests visiting its theme parks.
