Majestic Elegance Punta Cana Resort in the Dominican Republic will be CLOSED temporarily due to low occupancy. The resort is where the alleged beating of Tammy Lawrence-Daley took place in January. Lawrence-Daley went viral when she told her story in a Facebook post that blamed the resort for not compensating her for medical bills. She also also warned other women that the alleged “staff member” that beat her was never caught and that stories were being “squashed”

Lawrence-Daley told Delaware Online in an interview Tuesday that it was never her intention to cost anyone their jobs, even temporarily.

“I feel really bad because I wouldn’t want anybody to be out of work or anything like that, I wouldn’t wish anything bad against the resort. But we did read that they were closing due to low occupancy, which I believe is due to the viral nature of my posting on Facebook. People were very upset about how Majestic handled the situation.”

According to her lawyers, Lawrence-Daley filed a lawsuit against Majestic Resorts in July. She is suing for $3 million to compensate for “permanent, life-changing injuries” The lawsuit came after three weeks of being in the national spotlight.

Lawrence-Daley was taken into a staff area at the resort and “left for dead in a drainage area” by one or two people she believes were workers at the resort, according to her lawyers.

“I was kicked in the head, I was beaten with a club, and then strangled again for the kill.” Lawrence-Daley said in her Facebook post

Lawrence-Daley was in the hospital for five days, where she was treated for cuts and bruises and had surgery to repair her gum line. She says she now lives with physical ailments including nerve damage and “permanent disfigurement.”

Since Lawrence-Daley went public with her story, a series of unrelated deaths of American Tourists traveling in the Dominican Republic have received widespread attention.  The deaths of at least 11 other Americans at the Caribbean Island since June 2018 were put under the media microscope but in fact officials say the number of deaths are actually lower than in some previous years.
