Please note that this is not an exhaustive list of every country in the world. We've focused on the most popular destinations for American travelers. Easy Entry Requirements by Country For US Travelers

Aruba

• A valid passport for the duration of your stay.
• Complete the Aruba Online ED Card (Embarkation/Disembarkation card) within 72 hours before arrival. ($20 sustainability fee)
• Americans can stay for up to 90 days per visit.
• Proof of return ticket or sufficient funs to support your trip may be required.

Argentina

• Valid passport (6+ months validity).
• No visa required.
• 90-day stay (renewable).
• Proof of return/onward ticket may be required.

Australia

• A valid passport, valid for at least six months beyond your intended departure.
• Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) required. Apply via the Australian ETA app. Store (Apple) or Google Play (Android)
• Stay up to 90 days per visit.
• Proof of sufficient funds to support your trip is required.

Austria

• A valid passport, valid for at least three months beyond your intended stay.
• ETIAS travel authorization will be required starting in late 2026.
• Americans can visit Austria and the entire Schengen Area for up to 90 days within a 180-day period.
• Proof of onward travel and sufficient funds to support your trip may be required for Austria.

Bahamas

• A valid passport
• An electronic Baggage Declaration completed before arrival available for download on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
• Stays up to 90 days permitted
• Return/Onward ticket is required

Barbados

• A valid U.S. passport for the duration of your stay.
• Completion of the online Immigration and Customs form before arrival.
• Potential requests for proof of return ticket, accommodation details, and sufficient funds.
• U.S. citizens can stay for up to six months for tourism.

Belgium

• A valid passport valid for at least 3 months beyond your intended length of stay.
• ETIAS travel authorization will be required starting in late 2026.
• Americans can visit Belgium and the entire Schengen Area for up to 90 days within a 180-day period.
• Proof of onward travel and sufficient funds to support your trip may be required for Belgium.

Belize

• A valid passport
• A completed Embarkation/Disembarkation e-form submitted online before arrival in the country
• Proof of onward travel, such as a return ticket
• US citizens should be aware that they may be asked to show proof of sufficient funds to cover the cost of their stay in Belize

Brazil

• A valid passport on the day you arrive
• No visa required for tourism, business, transit, artistic, or sports activities, with a stay of up to 90 days (extendable) until April 9, 2025.
• Starting April 10, 2025: An electronic visa (e-visa) will be required.

Cambodia

• A valid passport with at least six months of validity remaining.
• A tourist visa is required. You can obtain an e-visa online or a visa on arrival at major ports of entry.
• Tourist visas are typically valid for 30 days with a possibility of extension for another 30 days.

Canada

• A valid passport
• You can visit Canada for up to 6 months without a visa.  
• A border officer may grant a shorter or longer stay.  
• There are no official limits on how often you can visit.

Chile

• A valid passport valid for the duration of your stay.
• No visa required for tourism stays up to 90 days.
• You may be asked for proof of onward travel.

Colombia

• A valid passport
• Upon arrival, U.S. citizens are granted tourist visas for 90 days.  
• It is possible to extend this initial period for another 90 days, but not further.  
• Fill out the Check-mig electronic form 72 hours prior to your trip.

Costa Rica

• A valid passport good for at least one day after your stay in Costa Rica
• A return or onward ticket
• A damaged passport may be grounds for not allowing entry into the country.  
• US citizens can typically stay for up to 180 days without a visa

Croatia

• A valid U.S. passport, valid for at least three months beyond your intended stay.
• No visa required for tourism stays up to 90 days within any 180-day period (Schengen Area rule).
• Potential requests for proof of onward travel and sufficient funds.

Cuba

• A valid passport
• A Cuban Tourist Card (visa) is required.
• Travel to Cuba for tourism purposes is prohibited by US law. Americans must meet the requirements of one of the 12 authorized categories of travel.
• Travelers must have a valid reason to visit Cuba.

Dominican Republic

• A valid passport valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay.  
• A return or onward ticket  
• The tourist card fee is usually included in your airfare.  
• While rarely requested, it is advisable to have some evidence that you have sufficient funds to support yourself during your stay.  
• Having a confirmed hotel reservation or vacation rental booking provides important information about your accommodation plans to the immigration officials.  
• US citizens can stay for up to 30 days without a visa

Ecuador

• A valid passport valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay.
• No visa required for tourism stays up to 90 days within a 12-month period.
• You may be asked for proof of sufficient funds and a return ticket.

Egypt

• A valid passport with at least six months of validity remaining.
• A tourist visa is required. US citizens can obtain a single-entry 30-day visa on arrival at Egyptian airports for a fee (currently $25 USD). You can also apply for an e-visa online in advance. Multiple-entry visas are also available.
• If only visiting the resorts in the Sinai Peninsula (Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab, Nuweiba, Taba) for up to 15 days, a visa may not be required, and you may receive a free entry permission stamp. However, to travel outside these areas, a visa is necessary.

France

• A valid passport
• ETIAS travel authorization (stay tuned for launch date on our France guide below).  
• The ETIAS will be valid for multiple trips over three years or until your passport expires, whichever comes first.

Germany

• A valid passport
• Stay under 90 days within a six-month window.  
• ETIAS travel authorization (stay tuned for launch date on our Germany guide below).
• A copy of the traveler's flight itinerary and hotel reservation.  
• Proof of return ticket or sufficient funs to support your trip may be required

Greece

• A valid passport valid for at least 3 months beyond the length of your stay.  
• ETIAS travel authorization (stay tuned for the launch date on our Greece guide below).  
• You can stay in Greece for up to 90 days within any 180-day period.  
• Proof of return ticket or sufficient funs to support your trip may be required

Hong Kong

• A valid passport valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay.
• No visa is required for US citizens for tourist stays up to 90 days.
• Proof of onward travel and adequate funds to support your trip

Iceland

• A valid passport valid for at least three months beyond your intended stay.
• No visa is required for US citizens for stays up to 90 days within a 180-day period (Schengen Area rules apply).
• ETIAS travel authorization will be required starting in late 2026
• Proof of sufficient funds and a return ticket

India

• A valid passport valid for at least six months beyond your planned stay.  
• Visa  
• The maximum amount of time you can stay in India per year is 180 days.

Indonesia

• A valid passport valid for at least six months from your date of entry.  
• Visa on Arrival (VoA) grants a 30-day stay in the country with the option of a single 30-day extension.  
• For Bali, get the e-visa before arrival for expedited immigration using e-gates.
• A damaged passport may be grounds for not allowing entry into the country
• Proof of return/onward ticket required

Ireland

• A valid passport
• Evidence of sufficient funds and a return airline ticket may be required.

Israel

• A valid passport valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay.
• No visa is required for tourist stays up to 90 days.
• Be prepared for thorough security

Italy

• A valid passport valid for at least 3 months beyond your intended length of stay.

Jamaica

• A valid passport
• Completed Jamaica's online Digital Entry Form  
• Upon arrival, a visitor's permit will be granted to the individual.  
• The permit allows the individual to stay in Jamaica for 90 days.  
• Proof of anticipated departure from Jamaica may be required

Japan

• A valid passport
• All foreign nationals are required to provide fingerprint scans and to be photographed at the port of entry

Kenya

• A valid passport with at least six months of validity remaining and at least one blank page.
• An e-visa is required and must be obtained online before arrival.
• You may be asked to provide proof of onward travel and sufficient funds.

Korea

• A valid passport with at least six months of validity remaining.
• U.S. citizens are currently exempt from the K-ETA (Korea Electronic Travel Authorization).
• US citizens can stay for up to 90 days.

Malaysia

• A valid passport with at least six months of validity remaining.
• No visa required for US citizens for tourist stays up to 90 days.
• Proof of onward travel and sufficient funds may be required.

Mexico

• A valid passport
• When arriving in the country, it is common practice to be granted a stay of 180 days but it's not guaranteed and up to the discretion of the border agent.  
• The FMM (Forma Migratoria Múltiple) is no longer required for most cities, especially if arriving by air.

Morocco

• A valid passport with at least six months of validity remaining beyond your intended stay.
• No visa is required for tourist stays up to 90 days.

Netherlands

• A valid passport
• ETIAS travel authorization (see our Netherlands guide below for updates on the launch).  
• Proof of sufficient funds and a return plane ticket may be required

New Zealand

• A valid passport with at least three months of validity beyond your intended date of departure.
• A New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) is required for US citizens traveling for tourism or transit under the visa waiver program. Apply well in advance (up to 72 hours processing time). The NZeTA is valid for multiple visits for up to two years.
• You may need to show proof of onward travel and sufficient funds to support your stay.
• All travelers must complete the New Zealand Traveler Declaration.

Panama

• A valid passport with at least three months of validity remaining from your intended date of departure from Panama.
• No visa required. Tourist visa granted upon arrival for up to 180 days (cumulative within a 12-month period).
• May need to show proof of onward travel.
• Proof of sufficient funds to support your trip

Peru

• A valid passport valid for at least six months beyond your intended date of entry.
• Officials will stamp your passport and likely write down the exact number of days you're allowed to stay based on your travel plans.
• Typically a stay of up to 183 days within a 365-day period is permitted for tourism.
• Evidence of a return or onward travel may be required.

Philippines

• A valid passport that is valid for at least six months.  
• A return ticket or ticket for an onward journey  
• Complete the eTravel Declaration System  
• US citizens can stay for up to 30 days without a visa

Portugal

• A valid passport.
• Americans can visit Portugal and the entire Schengen Area for up to 90 days within a 180-day period.

Saint Lucia

• A valid U.S. passport for the duration of your intended stay.
• No visa required for tourism stays up to 42 days (6 weeks).

Singapore

• A valid passport with at least six months of validity remaining.
• No visa is required for tourist stays up to 90 days.
• You may need to show proof of onward travel and sufficient funds.
• Complete the SG Arrival Card electronically within three days prior to your arrival.

South Africa

• A valid passport with at least six months of validity remaining from your intended date of entry and at least two unused visa pages.
• No visa is required for tourism or business stays up to 90 days.
• You may be asked to show proof of sufficient funds and a return or onward ticket.

Spain

• A valid passport

• Americans can visit Spain and the entire Schengen Area for up to 90 days within a 180-day period.
• Return or onward ticket and proof of sufficient financial means to support your trip
