Honduras has officially reopened airports and is now allowing international tourism to resume in the country as of August 17, 2020.

Honduras, a nation in Central America known for its Mayan ruins, jungle-covered mountains, barrier reefs and being a budget friendly destination, relies heavily on the 2 million tourists it gets yearly. Since the borders closed on March 15 due to the pandemic, the nation has been restless to once again welcome back tourism after being shut down for over 5 months.

The Instituto Hondureño de Turismo told Travel Off Path:

“The reopening of the tourist activities will be conducted in a gradual manner, currently with the reopening of Airports and hotels the protocols of biosecurity are being implemented with the minimum capacity to keep social distancing.”

We were in the country for seven months and left on Sept. 30. Yes they advertise they are open but there are movement restrictions and almost everything tourist related is closed. When we left we drove through Copan into Guatemala. Copan is a very touristy area and one of Honduras highlights. In Copan everything was closed so Im not sure why they and more specifically the tourist industry says they are open.

Friday 4th of September 2020

Apparently there is still a curfew until September 6th in place, after 8PM:

Copa Airlines has flights listed, but expensive ones for now. Tica Bus doesn't yet feature buses from San Jose to Tegucigalpa, Gekko Trails Explorer neither. So if people have tips how to even get into the country... :)
