The Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council has announced the addition of new flights from Portugal, France, Spain and Germany.
Darío Flota Ocampo, Director of the Tourism Promotion Council confirmed that flights from Portugal will resume on Monday. Additionally France and Germany are increasing flight frequency while Spain will resume flights in March.
Air France has confirmed they will increase the frequency of their Cancun route to 5 times weekly.
German airline Lufthansa has also agreed to increase their route to 5 times weekly.
Beginning March 8, flights from Madrid, Spain will begin with Evelop Airlines.
“The high season in England, France, Spain and Germany is in the summer and, as vaccines progress in Europe, we will have more arrivals, which did not happen last year with those countries,” Ocampo told Palco News Mexico.
Europeans will be looking for getaways this spring and as vaccinations continue, Cancun is increasing connectivity to ensure it captures some of the market. With Canadians unable to travel due to a new mandatory hotel quarantine, the Quintana Roo Tourism council did not delay on securing additional markets elsewhere in the world.
Ocampo highlighted that flights from Spain had not resumed as Spaniards have a perception that Covid-19 cases in Cancun are the same as Mexico City.
“The Spanish airlines already flies to Cuba and the Dominican Republic. Everything goes according to demand. For the Spaniards, the perception is that we are the same as in Mexico City, where the contagion figures are too high to encourage people to visit ,” Ocampo said.
U.S. Tourists Still Flocking To Cancun
American travelers love for Cancun and the Mexican Caribbean has not been put out by the new testing measures requiring all U.S. travelers returning home to present proof of a negative Covid-19 antigen test. An estimated 13,000 American travelers are still arriving in Cancun daily and authorities are reporting no shortage of testing options. Most large resorts and hotels in Cancun are currently offering free antigen testing for guests.
No Further Announcements Regarding Biden's U.S. Quarantine Order
While President Joe Biden announced that all travelers returning from abroad must self isolate following the ‘recommended CDC guidelines', no further details on what that meant have been released.
The Cancun International airports has opened two testing labs at the airport for travelers that require antigen tests to return home.
For European countries that require proof of a negative Covid-19 PCR test, hotel guests are encouraged to book with their hotel concierge who will set up the on-site appointment.

Europe is closing, not opening. TAP Portugal may be (again) pushing inauguration flights to CUN (scheduled for end of March) for few months. They did it last year and the situation there was ok. This article sounds like a wishful thinking. :(

As far is the statement by Joe Biden that travelers must sell isolate, I doubt he remember saying it much less what it means.

Comparing DR arrivals from Europe with CUN arrivals from Europe is a bit misleading. Many of those airlines flying to the DR from Madrid for example basically caters to ethnic market and business, landing many times in the airport at the capital, not at the resorts destinations (some do obviously).

Can you tell us bout transiting through Germany or France, any restriction or tests required?

Tests will more than likely be required, so I think anyone even transiting should have them at this point in the EU.
