Which destinations do American travelers want to visit most? A new study reveals the top trending destinations for travelers right now.
The data comes from a survey asking travelers where they plan to go in 2024, as well as what travel trends they are currently interested in.
The results reveal the most popular destinations for American travelers right now:
1. Mexico
Mexico remains the top destination for American travelers right now.
It's one of the easiest international destinations for American travelers to get to, thanks to an abundance of short, affordable, nonstop flights. Cancun alone has more than 40 nonstop flight routes from the U.S., with more being added this winter.
Other destinations like Los Cabos and Mexico City are also popular with American travelers because it's easier than ever to reach Mexico's beautiful beaches and excellent cities.
2. Canada
Another destination trending with American travelers is Canada. This country is often overlooked for more exotic or far-flung destinations, but Canada has a lot to offer for American travelers.
Currently, one of the top reasons to visit Canada is because of the favorable exchange rate for American travelers, which is $1 USD to $1.35 CAD right now. This means your money will go further when exploring beautiful destinations like Banff National Park or cities like Vancouver or Quebec City.
Canada also just launched a six-month digital nomad visa making it easier than ever to live and work in Canada for an extended period of time.

3. France
France is another one of the most popular destinations for American travelers.
Paris in particular continues to receive elevated interest from travelers, in part due to popular TV shows like Emily in Paris. An impressive 21% of travelers admitted they would be interested in traveling to the City of Light thanks to the popularity of this hit TV show.
Other travelers are drawn to France for a different reason: more than a quarter of those surveyed expressed an interest in World War II Europe, and France is home to a number of war-related historical sites in places like Normandy.
4. Spain
Another European destination topping the wishlist for American travelers right now is Spain.
Spain has always been a popular destination for travelers who want to explore the lively cities of Madrid, Barcelona, and Seville. It's also growing in popularity with American travelers as a summer beach destination.
The Balearic Islands, including Ibiza, Mallorca, and Menorca, as well as the sunny Costa del Sol in southern Spain are hotspots for summer travel.
5. Italy
Italy's historical attractions in cities like Florence, Rome, and Venice are a huge draw for travelers. 30% of those surveyed expressed an interest in Rennaissance Italy, making cities like Florence (the birthplace of the Rennaissance) a bucket list destination for many travelers.
In fact, Italy has become so popular that a number of changes have been implemented to control crowds and preserve historic sites and natural areas around the country.
In addition to beautiful, historic cities, Italy also draws in tourists with its enchanting coastal destinations like the Amalfi Coast, Cinque Terre, and Sardinia.
6. Greece
Finally, Greece is a popular destination for travelers right now thanks to its historical attractions and beautiful beaches and islands.
Half of the travelers surveyed said visiting a destination with historical attractions is important to them, with 40% expressing an interest in Ancient Greece. Athens is home to some of Greece's most popular historical sites like the Acropolis and the Athenian Agora.
In addition to Athens, travelers flock to bucket-list destinations like the islands of Santorini and Mykonos. More flights than ever to Greece makes it easier for Americans to get there.

I am not a fan of Venice. Smelt to me like thousands of years of sewage in the canals. Horrible.
