Puerto Vallarta will go into a partial lockdown beginning October 30th for 14 days due to a surge in COVID-19 cases.
Travelers should be aware that several restrictions will go into place to help curb the spread of COVID-19 in the community and help relieve the pressure on hospitals.
According to the latest report from the Federal Health Authorities, the General Hospital of Puerto Vallarta is currently at 100% of its regular bed capacity. There are three beds remaining of the 6 that have been reserved for acute intensive COVID-19 respiratory care.
The Governor of Jalisco confirmed that starting on October 30, the Jalisco 'emergency button' will be activated as 904 new cases were registered in a 24 hour period.
Travelers need to be aware that the entire state of Jalisco has new lockdown measures but due to the tourism industry in Puerto Vallarta, some of the restrictions will have exceptions.
In Puerto Vallarta the following restrictions will be implemented for 14 days starting on October 30th.
All non-essential businesses including restaurants and bars must close by 8:30 pm.
All beaches will close at 3:00 pm daily.
Public transportation including Uber must stop operating by 10:00 pm.

All non-essential services and businesses will be closed from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m daily.
The Mayor of Puerto Vallarta reported earlier this week that 250 businesses have been either closed or fined for not following COVID-19 prevention protocols.
“So far in the pandemic, we have closed and fined about 250 establishments that have not complied with the instructions,” said Mayor Arturo Dávalos Peña.
Dávalos Peña added that the tourism industry has been the most affected by the pandemic resulting in at least 50,000 job lost.
Puerto Vallarta officially reopened for tourism on June 15th but has not seen the rebound in tourism that destinations like Cancun has.
Canadians make up a large number of Puerto Vallarta tourists who have been mostly absent due to the 14 day quarantine upon returning home.
A recent pilot program beginning November 2nd in Calgary will allow Albertans to greatly reduce the quarantine time to around 48 hours through COVID-19 testing. If the program is successful, it will be rolled out across Canada which may help bring more snowbirds and travelers back to Puerto Vallarta this winter.
Mexico and the Dominican Republic have quickly become two of the most popular destinations for Americans and Canadians during the pandemic due to their easy going COVID-19 entry requirements.
Both countries require no quarantines and have no mandatory testing prior to traveling which makes entry a breeze.
In order to maintain popularity, both countries will have to continue to take measures within their own borders to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
