Travel restrictions have been reimposed on U.S. passengers and proof of vaccination is required for all non-essential travel to Spain.

Spain has officially removed the United States from its “white list”, meaning restrictions on U.S. passengers have been reinstated and proof of vaccination will now be required before travel.

Starting September 6th, all travelers from the U.S. planning to visit Spain for non-essential reasons (including tourism) must now show proof of vaccination before entry. A negative Covid test result will be required if the passenger is traveling for essential reasons and is not fully vaccinated.

Spain Opened To Travelers On June 7

This week's announcement follows a summer of relative ease for travel in the region, as Spain opened to U.S. travelers regardless of vaccination status back in June. No quarantine was required upon entry, but visitors from the U.S. had to either show proof of full vaccination, a negative Covid test result or proof of full recovery.

Which Vaccines Are accepted For Travel To Spain

To enter Spain at this time, the country accepts Covid-19 vaccines which have been approved by the World Health Organization for emergency use, as well as the ones by the European medicines agency. These vaccines include Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Johnson&Johnson, Sinopharm, Sinovac and Covidshield.

As with all proof of vaccination for travel, you must have received your last dose of the vaccine at least 14 days prior to departure.

All Passengers Required To Fill Out Form On Health Portal Before Travel

The new restrictions state that all international passengers traveling to Spain via air or sea, including those transiting through the country, must fill out the form online at the Spain Travel Health Portal and register their details (name, travel information, previous countries visited, health status) prior to traveling to Spain. The site will send you a QR code after completing the form, which you can provide at the airport via your smartphone or show as a printed version.

Before your trip, you can head directly to the website Spain Travel Health Portal or download the form on your phone through the ‘SpTH’ app, available on Google play or iOS.

Other Entry Requirements For U.S. Travelers

These new restrictions mean that unvaccinated travelers from the U.S. can't visit Spain for non-essential reasons. Passengers from the U.S. traveling for essential purposes who are not vaccinated must show proof of a negative Covid test result prior to departure. Accepted tests for travel include a PCR test taken no more than 72 hours before arrival, or an antigen test taken no more than 48 hours before arrival in Spain.

Unvaccinated persons 12 and under are currently not required to show any vaccination or negative test result and will be cleared for travel.

Announcement Follows EUs New Recommendations

On August 31st, officials at the EU adjusted its guidance for travelers coming from the U.S. and removed the country from its safe list, due to the rapid rise in Covid cases across the nation. Individual nations from the EU bloc are able to set their individual restrictions for incoming international travelers.

Other European nations that have tightened their restrictions on U.S. travelers are Denmark, Sweden and Italy.

U.S. Restrictions For Spain And Other EU Nations Continue

In late July, the United States issued a “Do Not Travel” advisory for the destinations of Spain and Portugal. Currently, travelers coming from Spain and a number of nations in the EU cannot visit the U.S. for non-essential purposes. And while the EU has called upon the United States to ease travel restrictions, changes have yet to be made.

So I guess that being vaccinated is more important than testing negative. Does this mean that they are finally admitting that the PCR test is a scam? Or is it all about taking the rights of freedom away and reintroducing it as a privilege?
