The beautiful Caribbean island of St. Lucia has eased its restrictions for vaccinated travelers. All vaccinated travelers can now dine in restaurants, book rental cars, explore local markets, and go shopping. Before May 31st, all travelers faced restrictions on entering certain public places. Travelers must show proof of vaccination once they enter the country. US travelers will need to show their original vaccination cards, but British travelers must show their proof of vaccine via the NHS app.
The nation approves two-dose and one-dose vaccines, but all vaccinations must have taken place 14 days before arrival. The local officials also noted that “they know how many doses people need for each brand.”
Officials also recommend that travelers print off a copy of their vaccination status if possible. Once you arrive in St. Lucia, all pre-registered vaccinated travelers will receive a non-electronic wristband. Travelers must wear the wristband throughout their entire stay.
The Stance On Non-Vaccinated Travelers
However, non-vaccinated travelers will still have to complete a mandatory 14-day quarantine on a government-approved hotel property. In addition, non-vaccinated travelers will still face restrictions on what they can do on the island, whereas vaccinated travelers will enjoy more freedom.
For example, non-vaccinated travelers won’t be able to socialize with other guests in their accommodation or go and explore the island on their own. Non-vaccinated residents will also have to complete a mandatory 14-day quarantine upon arrival.
Although the mandatory 14-day quarantine has stopped some travelers from visiting, the country has a selection of luxury resorts and Air BnB’s where you can complete your quarantine.
The Policy On COVID19 Testing
Despite the change in vaccine policy, all arrivals will still have to complete a PCR test taken no more than five days before arriving in St. Lucia. This policy applies to anyone over the age of five, with under five’s not requiring a PCR test. Furthermore, all arrivals will need to complete the online travel registration and follow all safety protocols. That includes wearing masks in public places.
If you test positive during your stay, you’ll have to quarantine for ten days in your accommodation. Furthermore, if you’re flying to the US, local authorities won’t allow you to board a plane until you’ve completed a mandatory 10-day quarantine. However, once you’ve completed the ten days of quarantine, you are free to fly to the US with no additional tests required in St. Lucia.
The COVID-19 Situation In St. Lucia
St. Lucia has remained open for much of the pandemic, but all arrivals have had to complete mandatory 14-day quarantine. The country has had low COVID-19 cases for much of the pandemic, with 5,072 cases and 35 deaths since the pandemic started. After a brief spike from January to March, the country has got rates down to almost signal digits per day. On June 1st, 2020, the nation only recorded 13 cases of COVID-19, making it an excellent place to escape the pandemic and relax on the beach.
The St. Lucia Prime Minister Allen Chastanet showed his pleasure at the news. He stated, “All visitors can experience a wonderful vacation as well as approved tours and attractions. Fully vaccinated travelers can explore the entire destination at their leisure while following our protocols.”
Furthermore, the Prime Minister praised his country’s handling of the pandemic and how the country has safely opened since June 2020 because of the bubble it created for visitors and frontline workers.
Travelers know St. Lucia for its incredible beaches, hikes, and mountains. So the news that the country is removing restrictions on vaccinated people is welcome news to many US travelers who often travel here during the summer months.
