Most top 10 lists for women flying solo focus on the safest places to visit. But what about for girls that want to have fun? Our list is for you! It focuses on cities with fascinating cultures, tons of things to see and do, and great nightlife activities as well as good safety records.  

To celebrate International Women’s Day coming on March 8th, here's our comprehensive list of the top 10 destinations for solo female travelers in 2024.  

In collaboration with our accomplished female travel writers, we embarked on a research journey to identify the most suitable destinations for solo female travelers. This involved surveying our dedicated female readership and incorporating insights from leading safety reports. The result is a curated list that empowers women to explore the world.  


Tulum is one of the best destinations in Mexico for solo travelers. It is a small town with a relaxed atmosphere which means it’s an easy place to meet new people and form new friendships if you’re looking for company.

If you want to enrich your soul then there are few better places to be. You can enjoy yoga at dawn, massage treatments on the beach, explore boho shops and relax in trendy bars.  
Some of the highlights of a trip to Tulum include exploring the town’s Mayan ruins, swimming in a breathtakingly beautiful cenote, and of course relaxing on the beach. The nightlife here is incredible and you won’t struggle to find welcoming spots to party the night away.  


Traveling solo in Croatia?

Split is perfect for solo travelers seeking a down-to-earth ambiance and is a better spot than the much more well-known and crowded Dubrovnik.  

Split is a coastal city that is popular for solo travelers hoping to enjoy sailing, surfing and other adrenaline-filled sports. It’s also a great place to meet other travelers who share these interests.

If you’re a night owl then Split is a great spot as it turns into a party city at night and its beautiful ancient alleyways are filled with outdoor bars after hours.  

Cultural highlights of a visit to Split include exploring the labyrinth of its Old Town, visiting the beautiful 15th century Town hall in Narodni trgm, and of course spending time on the rock and sand beaches. Znjan Beach is the largest of these and is loaded with amenities.  


Tokyo is an incredibly safe city with low crime rates and a respectful culture. But it has so much more to offer solo female travelers than that.

Tokyo is a city where ancient temples sit harmoniously alongside futuristic megastructures.

It is a city packed with attractions, culture, architecture and museums. What’s more, eating alone is normal here, and many restaurants are set up for this, which is great news for solo travelers. And the food is universally delicious.  

Worried you’ll feel isolated? Taking a bike tour of the city is a great way to meet other solo travelers and you can also book volunteer guides for sightseeing in the city which are offered free of charge.  


Reykjavik is considered one of the best cities in the world for solo female travelers thanks to its combination of low crime statistics and high regard for gender equality.

But if you arrive for the safety levels, you’ll stay for the outstanding natural beauty.

Most Icelanders speak impeccable English which makes communication straightforward and also means it's easy to meet new people as you travel.

The country has a brilliant tourism infrastructure, so getting around and exploring the breathtaking landscapes is easy too.

Culture vultures will find the Hindu temple Tanah Lot to the North of Canggu which is a great place to explore. And the nearby Seminyak resort area boasts high-end shops, restaurants, and excellent nightlife options too.  

New York 

If you don’t want to travel too far from home, then New York is the first of 2 destinations in the U.S. considered the best for solo female travelers.

Tourists travel from across the world to New York for its museums, to catch a Broadway show, and to see the architecture such as the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty.

Flying solo in the Big Apple is easier than you might think, and the city is generally safe for solo female travelers. Consider staying close to a subway station for safety reasons and have fun.  

Great activities for solo female travelers include exploring the Brooklyn Flea market, taking a food tour or a walking tour of the city, and catching a show. Being solo gives you plenty of flexibility when it comes to finding theater tickets.  

But you don’t have to have a plan here. New York is a city that lends itself perfectly to going where your heart takes you, making it a great destination for solo female travelers who don’t like to plan ahead.  


Welcome to Miami! We’re going to Miami! This is the 2nd U.S. city on our list that is perfect for solo female travelers.

Miami is a party city with a reputation for club hopping and letting your hair down. But if that’s not your scene, then there's so much more to do in Miami besides partying. 

Visit South Beach for the luxury atmosphere and beautiful Caribbean-style beaches. Explore the elegant shops and eateries of Mary Brickell village. Whether you want to let off steam or just relax in the sunshine, there’s a Miami for every solo female traveler.  


Off the west coast of Thailand is Phuket. This is a city that’s incredibly popular with travelers and backpackers, so you’re sure to meet like-minded travelers here.

There are many different facets to Phuket, meaning there’s something for every solo traveler. Patpong in Phuket is probably the liveliest area for party people, but if you want somewhere quieter, choose Karon Beach for its natural beauty instead.  

One of the main attractions of Phuket is the nightlife. There are plenty of bars, nightclubs, and entertainment venues to suit every taste and budget. The beaches and bays are beautiful too, while animal lovers should check out the Green Elephant Sanctuary Park · 

Mexico City  

It’s no coincidence that 2 Mexican destinations appear on this list: although Mexico isn’t top of the list of safest destinations for solo female travelers, it packs a punch in the culture and entertainment categories.

Mexico City is one of the world’s largest and most vibrant metropolises. Culture seekers will be enamored with its numerous UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including Xochimilco and the city’s historic center.  

Mexico City offers warm hospitality, vibrant street art, and a rich nightlife scene. It’s a great place to explore on foot and see where the mood takes you. Of course, there are areas in Mexico City that you should avoid as a solo female, but this is true of most cities.  


Dubai is a modern and rapidly developing city with a well-deserved reputation for luxury. luxury shopping, ultramodern architecture, and lively nightlife options mean that solo travelers will never be bored here.
