How come the tests are FREE to the Americans, but not the Canadians????

Trevor Kucheran

Because the USA accepts ‘antigen’ type tests that can be provided free of charge (as they are very cheap) and the Canadian government needs PCR type tests and they are very expensive and are not currently given free. It's not the hotels or Mexico's intention, it's the different types of tests needed by the two different governments

@Kashlee I understand your point and it sounds good on the Mexico side...however, said visitors could still be easily screwed. Say someone wanted a simple vacation and then before returning to the US got a positive result (true or false positive). Well, sure, they get a 14 day low cost stay in Mexico, but what about their job back home? Their family? And so on. Now, you could just say "Well don't go then" but remember not everyone gets ample time off every year. Should we just tell these people never to vacation or travel again? These "rules" keep getting more illogical by the month and aren't about safety. The travel industry is being destroyed over so little.

Nice try to make it convenient for tourists to get tested before departure, but many will refuse to get tested. That is why the land border option is the only option for this group of people. Also, I wonder if landing in Tijuana and using the bridge to cross into the US is considered as a “land crossing”. At least, in this case, the airlines wouldn’t require anything upon departure.

Better idea. Cross the land border, and drive/bus/fly from a Mexican border city. Then cross the land border when you return. That way you avoid the pointless test (don't forget how screwed you could be with a false positive) AND the government can't refuse you entry. (Which they can do indirectly for flights by claiming it's the airline - a "private company" refusing you and not the government itself, which is highly unconstitutional). What a nightmare dystopia...all this nonsense just to move around.

I have to disagree with you on this one. The resorts are making it SO easy, and in the case that you do test positive, giving you a FREE 14-day stay? That's pretty nice! Flying to border towns and then taking buses and trying to cross land borders that will ultimately make your trip so much more of a hassle is not easier.

Easy is flying directly to Cancun, staying at a resort, and taking their free test to fly directly back home. Simple.
