Europe is not your typical all-inclusive destination: unlike Mexico or the Caribbean islands, five-star, tout-compris resorts across the pond are not at the front of the tourism offer and can be rare to come upon, with prohibitive prices and more limited availability.

On the other hand, they are the average American's favorite way to unwind and enjoy their vacation, but it's not like Santorini's 400-dollar-a-night Radisson Blu Zaffron Resort, or Menorca's landmark Villa Le Blanc costing $561 to book exactly fit the budget.

Still, if you're craving some of that Old World charm, but you're also looking to get pampered (for a reasonable price), there is lesser-known island in Spain offering culture, beaches, and the most affordable all-inclusive stays in the whole of Europe:

Tenerife Is The Cheapest All-Inclusive Destination In Europe

According to a new Which? survey, the best all-inclusive deal this summer in Europe is Tenerife, a small island in Spain's Canaries archipelago, just off the coast of East Africa, where temperatures are warm year-round and it's sunny for over 90% of the year.

Out of all the destinations surveyed, Tenerife has the cheapest luxury hotels, based on 4,500 package holidays analyzed for the first week of August, the peak travel season in summer: on average, a week-long all-inclusive stay will set you back by $1,356.

This brings Tenerife in line with other (somewhat) affordable resort islands across the pond, like the Dominican Republic or Jamaica, where all-inclusive vacations average $1,017 a week (it's luxury at accessible prices, and that's what makes them so attractive).

Though there are not half as many all-inclusives in Tenerife as there are in Punta Cana, with 21 listed on Booking.com, the limited selection is by no means less impressive.

Some of the highlights – and their respective room rates per night – are the following:

Resort River Stream In Costa Mujeres, Canary Islands, Spain
  • The H10 Atlantic Sunset in Callao Salvaje ($254)
  • The H10 Costa Adeje Palace in Costa Adeje ($186)
  • Gran Oasis Resort in Playa de las Americas ($303)
  • Dreams Jardin Tropical Resort & Spa in Costa Adejes ($331)
  • Green Garden Eco Resort & Villas in Playa de las Americas ($308)

Based on the researchers' findings, Golf del Sur and Costa Adejes are the top two best-value-for-money destinations in Tenerife, as they concentrate a majority of the island's luxurious listings, some as cheap as $1,228 to book for the week.

Tenerife is one of the leading holiday islands in Spain, best known for its rugged nature, verdant, mountainous inland, sandy Atlantic beaches, and centuries-old oceanside villages boasting temperate climates.

The local capital – Santa Cruz de Tenerife – is a vibrant mid-size city unfolding along a golden-sand beach, dotted with upscale resorts and casual bars, and other leisure hotspots can be found in the equally-lively Costa Adejes and Puerto de la Cruz.

Culture buffs shouldn't miss out on a day trip to San Cristóbal de La Laguna, a charming 16th-century township nestled deep in the Tenerifian hinterland best known for its cobbled Old Town, historic cathedral and colorful facades.

If you're a nature enthusiasts, a visit to Teide National Park, home to the tallest peak in Spain (including both the mainland and the Canary Islands) will take you through unique geological formations and vertiginous hikes with sweeping views of dramatic arid landscapes.

Fortunately for American visitors, Tenerife is one of a handful of destinations in Spain they can fly nonstop to, with seasonal service having launched from Newark last year, and set to make a triumphant comeback in summer 2024.
