The Florida Keys are one of the prime vacation spots in the U.S., and it is no mystery as to why! With stunning beaches, luxurious resorts, and warm weather year-round, the Keys are hard to beat. If you’re considering planning a trip to the keys, here are the top 10 beaches in this collection of islands.
1. Calusa Beach
Located on Big Pine Key, Calusa is a fairly small beach that offers gorgeous views as well as a generally quieter visit. The beach also offers some helpful amenities including changing rooms and showers in addition to restrooms.
2. Sombrero Beach
Sombrero Beach is located in Marathon, Florida, a city that spans several of the key islands. This dreamy beach also features a volleyball court and picnic areas and is dog friendly.
3. Smathers Beach
If you’re visiting Key West, you won’t want to miss Smathers Beach! This beautiful spot features clear blue waters and palm tree-lined sands. It’s also pretty large for a beach in the Keys – it spans nearly a mile – increasing your chances of finding a not-too-crowded spot to set up.
4. Sunset Park Beach
This is a perfect option if you’re looking to enjoy a beach picnic or watch the sunset. Sunset Park is a pretty small beach, but it’s gorgeous all the same. It also features a pier that’s a popular spot for viewing the sunset – if you want to be sure you’ll get a spot near the front of the pier, consider arriving early.
5. John Pennekamp State Park
John Pennekamp State Park was the country’s first underwater park. And while the waters are absolutely amazing for snorkeling and scuba diving, the surrounding sands are perfect for relaxing on as well. The park’s sandy beach, Cannon Beach, isn’t huge but does offer some great views of the clear blue waters beyond the sand.
6. Higgs Memorial Beach
This is another fairly small beach, however, it is very beautiful. Higgs Memorial Beach is located on Key West. It is a great spot for swimming and snorkeling. Additionally, the surrounding park also features spots for volleyball and tennis.
7. Simonton Beach
Another beach located on Key West, one of the best perks of this spot is its proximity to the popular Mallory Square. This makes it a convenient stop if you’re looking to enjoy a walk along the beach or a great last-minute addition to your day!
8. Dog Beach
If you’re traveling with pets, this is the option for you! Dog Beach not only allows but welcomes dogs. Located on Key West, Dog Beach is pretty small but is still sure to make an enjoyable outing that you and your furry friend can enjoy.
9. Founders Park Beach
If you’re in Islamadora, you’ll want to check out Founders Park Beach. In addition to being the perfect spot to relax in the sun, it's also a great location for those wanting to snorkel from the shore.
10. Zachary Taylor State Park Beach
This is one of the most southern beaches in the U.S., and its warm, sapphire waters reflect that. Enjoy a stroll on the beach, work on your tan, or add a bit of an adventure to your trip by snorkeling in the surrounding waters!
