As summer rolls around, it's a great time to start planning your next family trip! Whether you're considering making Texas your destination or just planning a road trip through the state, here are 10 family-friendly things to do the next time you're in the area.
1. Visit The National Butterfly Center
Traverse gorgeous trails and see equally gorgeous butterflies with a trip to the National Butterfly Center! With a visit to this preserve, you can look forward to not only viewing butterflies flying free in their natural habitat, but also catching glimpses of other wildlife such as birds.
2. Stop By Dinosaur World
Dinosaur loving kids will love a visit to Dinosaur World! Located in Glen Rose, Texas, this park is home to over 100 life-size dinosaur sculptures. Reservations are not currently required, but masks are for indoor portions of the attraction.
3. Spend Some Time At Port Aransas
Enjoy a day at the beach with a visit to Port Aransas. You can look forward to traversing the gorgeous shores, then grab a bite to eat at one of the numerous nearby restaurants such as Bluewater Cowboy or Island Café. If you’re looking to stay longer in the area, there are also several rentals as well as camping sites available!
4. Go To Dallas Zoo
Head on over to the Dallas Zoo to see all sorts of animals, ranging from giraffes to penguins to lions. In addition to viewing the animals, the zoo also offers guided tours that go in-depth on information and care of the inhabitants. Masks are not currently required for general admission into the zoo but are required for those that participate in animal encounters.
5. Explore The Children's Museum Houston
Kids will love exploring the Children’s Museum Houston! After a long period of closure, the museum is set to reopen on June 8th, making it a great stop to add to your next trip to Texas! The museum features exhibits geared towards kids ages toddlers to pre-teens, including interactive exhibits like the EcoStation and playlands for younger children like the Tot*Spot!
6. Visit The Space Center
Here’s one for both aspiring astronauts and those just curious to learn more out space! Visit the Space Center in Houston to view and learn all about rockets, space travel, and outer space. The Space Center is currently open, but requiring timed entry tickets and face masks are recommended for all guests 2 and older, but only required on the Tram tour.
7. Plan A Visit To Six Flags Fiesta
If your family loves thrills, consider a trip to Six Flags Fiesta Texas! You can look forward to rollercoasters, water rides, and even live shows with a visit to this fun-filled amusement park. Currently, face coverings are not mandatory but are recommended for guests who haven’t received a COVID-19 vaccine.
8. Explore The Natural Bridge Caverns
Bring out your inner explorer with a visit to The Natural Bridge Caverns! Discovered in 1960, these caverns are the largest commercial cabins in the state of Texas. Guests can choose from a variety of tour options to see the caverns, including the Discovery Tour, which features one-of-a-kind LED lighting throughout the caverns.
9. Have Fun At Legoland Discovery Center
Kids and adults alike will love a trip to Legoland Discovery Center! You can look forward to bringing out your inner inventor by building and racing a car at the Giant Speed Ramp. Or, view a replica of San Antonio made entirely out of legos. Face coverings are recommended currently, but not required.
10. Visit Big Bend National Park
Get back to nature with a visit to Big Bend National Park! The park is home to gorgeous scenery, a variety of wildlife, and a ton of things to do. Consider going for a soak in the hot springs. Or, check out the stunning Santa Elena canyon and get some hiking in. No matter what you want to do, Big Bend National Park is sure to have something that fits your preferences!
