Southern California has no shortage of gorgeous, photogenic places to visit, and we’ve rounded up some fun and notable options. Whether you’re looking for a group photo in a gorgeous garden or the perfect spot to take an aesthetic sunset silhouette photo, this list has got you covered!
1. Venice Canals
Here’s a spot that’s both unique and perfect for some great photos! The Venice Canals, located in Los Angeles County, are a set of 4 canals inspired by their namesake in Europe. Lined by lush trees and connected with some beautiful bridges, they’re the perfect backdrop for a photo!
2. Anza Borrego State Park
If you love hiking or the outdoors, head out to Anza Borrego State Park to check out this trail. A 2.9-mile loop trail, it features a gorgeous palm tree oasis that will make you feel more like you’re in a jungle than a desert in some sections. Winter is also the perfect time for this trek – you’ll be able to enjoy mild conditions the whole way!
3. Sunset Boulevard
This iconic L.A. street is well-loved for a reason! This palm tree-lined street is perfect for a photo of the sunset – or using the sunset and palm trees as a memorable backdrop. Located in the heart of L.A., its location also makes it a convenient stop for those already staying in the city.
4. Santa Monica Pier
Head over to Santa Monica to take some fun and memorable photos at the Santa Monica Pier. The pier features amusement rides, games, and several great eateries. Whether you’re looking for a magical photo in front of the pier’s historic Ferris Wheel at night, or looking to take some photos of a delicious meal, this option provides plenty of variety.
5. The Last Bookstore
Looking for a place to take some quirky, memorable photos? Head over to the Last Bookstore. L.A’s largest used bookstore, the store features some fun and photogenic spots such as an archway made out of books. If you're an avid reader, you can also look forward to picking up some new books on your stop as well.
6. The Hollywood Sign
No list talking about great Instagram-able spots in Southern California would be complete without a mention of the iconic Hollywood Sign. There’s a couple of ways to get a stunning shot here. You can hike up to the sign on a number of trails, the easiest being the Mt Hollywood Trail. You can also opt to head to a viewpoint, such as Mulholland Drive.
7. Belmont Park
If you love a retro vibe, this is the perfect option for you! Belmont Park is an iconic beachfront amusement park located in San Diego, California, and there are several great spots to take pictures. The boardwalk or nearby beach are both perfect for some gorgeous sunset pictures, while the memorable front entrance under the park’s wooden rollercoaster can also make a great shot!
8. Griffith Observatory
This is one of L.A’s most popular spots for both sightseeing and photos, and it's no wonder as to why! Because it is so well-loved, it may be a Little challenging to get a photo without anyone else in the background. Going early in the morning, or on a weekday, can make it a bit easier though.
9. Potato Chip Rock
Here’s another one for those who love the outdoors! Potato Chip Rock is guaranteed to make a stunning photo. It does require a hike to get to the uniquely shaped rock and can be steep in some areas, but the destination is so worth it.
10. Balboa Park
Head over to San Diego, California to experience Balboa Park! This is a great option for the sheer number of spots you’ll have to take photos in – the park features several gardens, ponds, and gorgeous buildings that all make a great photo backdrop depending on what you’re looking for.
