Los Angeles may not experience a snowy holiday season, but that doesn't mean there aren't plenty of ways to get in a cheery spirit this winter! From light displays to ice-skating rinks, here are the top 7 fun and memorable festive things to do in the city.
1. Enchanted: Forest Of Light
Light displays are practically synonymous with the holiday season and viewing these dazzling displays is sure to make for a fun and memorable time. Enchanted: Forest Of Light truly goes above and beyond in creating a winter wonderland with its awe-inspiring displays. This year, for instance, the attraction features a village made of glowing, stained glass creations. The creativity involved, as well as its sheer number of lights, makes the Forest Of Light not only gorgeous to explore but also the perfect backdrop for a holiday photo. It is currently set to run from November 21 through January 9, And tickets are available for purchase online.
2. Yuletide CinemaLand
A holiday movie is a perfect way to get in a festive mood and you’ll take cinema land offers weekly opportunities to do so. Head over to Heritage Square Museum to catch one of their outdoor showings of holiday films such as Elf and Home Alone. Yuletide CinemaLand begins its showings on December 4 and then offers weekly showings of movies throughout the month.
3. Hikari – Festival Of Lights At Tanaka Farms
The Festival of Lights not only features some gorgeous light displays but also several additional unique draws that make it worth a visit. In addition to taking in the dazzling lights, you can also look forward to enjoying a glowing wagon ride. After you’ve traversed the light displays, you can make your way to the Gingerbread Forest, which features food, drinks, and entertainment. Hikari is set to open on Black Friday and run through the end of December. Tickets are available online.
4. L.A. Kings Holiday Ice-Skating Rink
Whether you’re an expert ice skater or you prefer to hang onto the side, this ice-skating rink is a great way to get in a festive mood. Part of L.A., an entertainment complex in downtown Los Angeles, this annual attraction promises loads of fun. The ice-skating rink is currently set to be open from November 27 through January 8. Skate rentals are available at the rink. This means that you don’t even have to have your own skates to enjoy this fun activity.
5. Zoolights at Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens
If you’re looking for a fun – and affordable – outing, consider checking out Zoolights at the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens. Zoolights is a bit cheaper than some of the other light displays on this list, but it’s just as magical. You can look forward to viewing glowing representations of the animals of the view, exploring interactive experiences, and of course, plenty of opportunities to take some great photos! Zoolights from November 19th through January 9th. Tickets are available online as well as at the zoo's in-person box office.
6. Lightscape
Lightscape is another stunning light display in Los Angeles! Located in L.A. County Arboretum, Lightscape consists of a mile-long pathway that you can traverse on foot. This is a great attraction if you’re looking for some memorable holiday photos – whether you’re looking for a family shot or a selfie with your partner, Lightscape’s display will provide a gorgeous festive background. Lightscape is currently open and set to run through mid-January of 2022. Tickets for this festive attraction are available online.
7. Holiday Road
Head into the beautiful Santa Monica mountains to enjoy this holiday wonderland! Holiday Road is a 2/3 of a mile-long walking trail wreathed in gorgeous light displays. Located at King Gillette Ranch, this attraction features more than just stunning lights, however. You can also look forward to enjoying a bite to eat at one of the food trucks, or trying out a festive cocktail at the holiday bar.
