CDC Warns Americans Against Canada Travel
The U.S. has updated its travel advisories and has added Canada to the Level 4: Do Not Travel list because of high Omicron cases.
The CDC stated, “Because of the current situation in Canada, even fully vaccinated travelers may be at risk for getting and spreading COVID-19 variants. Travelers should follow recommendations or requirements in Canada, including wearing a mask and staying 6 feet apart from others.”
“If you must travel to Canada, make sure you are fully vaccinated before travel,” the CDC warned,” the CDC added.
The New ‘Level 4: COVID-19 Very High Risk’ Nations
Countries placed on the CDC’s ‘Level 4: COVID-19 Very High Risk’ category have witnessed an infection rate of over 500 cases per 100,000 in the last 28 days. However, in nations with fewer than 100,000 people, they must record 500 cases cumulatively in the last 28 days.
Canada
Canada is witnessing record-breaking cases of COVID-19 in recent weeks. The current 7-day case average is 39,456; that’s the highest number of cases since the pandemic began. The 7-day case average in early December was only around 3,000.
Curaçao
The CDC has also added Curaçao to its Level 4: Do Not Travel list. The small—yet popular—Caribbean island has witnessed a sharp rise in cases in recent weeks. However, the current 7-day case average is 872, a sharp rise from the 7-day case average of just 20 in early December.
Canada and Curaçao will join a host of other popular destinations for U.S. tourists already on the Level 4: COVID-19 Very High Risk:
- France
- Iceland
- Ireland
- Italy
- Netherlands
- Portugal
- South Africa
- Spain
- Switzerland
- United Kingdom
The CDC states U.S. travelers can still visit these nations, but they strongly recommend all Americans fully vaccinate themselves from COVID-19 before traveling.

Cruise Travel Warning
In a surprise move to many in the travel industry, the CDC issues a Level 4: Do Not Travel warning against all cruise travel in late December because of rising Omicron cases.
The CDC said, “The virus that causes Covid-19 spreads easily between people in close quarters onboard ships, and the chance of getting Covid-19 on cruise ships is very high, even if you are fully vaccinated and have received a Covid-19 vaccine booster dose,”
At the end of 2021, all cruise ships in the United States had at least one COVID-19 case.
Final Thoughts
The CDC updates its travel advisories weekly. We will always bring you the latest changes every week.
Although the CDC suggests destinations on the higher risk lists are dangerous, Americans can still travel there for leisure purposes.

“ even fully vaccinated travelers may be at risk for getting and spreading COVID-19 variants”
The vast majority of people spreading, being infected, being hospitalized, are all fully vaccinated, and triple vaccinated.
Not the per 100,000 population stats. I’m talking about who’s actually taking up all the beds in the hospitals with severe symptoms. It’s the fully vaccinated.

@Stephen Suley, not true at all!! There are also those with fake vaccination records who simply don’t care that they spread the s@*% and put us and health workers in danger!

@Elisa, Sadly he’s right. In Canada fully vaxxed folks are falling ill at a way higher percentage than the unvaxxed. I think the jab lowered people’s immune systems. As for this article, even Canadians don’t want to be in our country anymore so I doubt any Americans want to come
