Throughout March and April, 2021, countries all over the world started to amend entry requirements to include easier and more relaxed rules for vaccinated passengers, sometimes removing all barriers completely.
Now as we enter May, the list keeps growing with over 30+ countries now recognizing the safety of vaccinated passengers. Seven additional nations have recently made exceptions and exemptions for fully vaccinated travelers this week. Here's everything you need to know:
Tunisia
Tunisia is the first country to make an exception for those who’ve only received the FIRST dose of their full vaccine treatment.
Current entry requirements for Tunisia include providing a 72-hour PCR test before entry, completing a 7-day government-approved hotel quarantine, and taking another PCR test to be released.
In order to bypass the 2 PCR tests and the costly 7-day hotel quarantine, passengers can now show they’ve received
- At least the 1st dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine
- At least the 1st dose of the AstraZeneca, Pfizer, or Moderna vaccine in combination with a recovery certificate from a previous infection within 6 months
- Or both shots/full treatment of J&J, AstraZeneca, Pfizer, or Moderna.
Turks and Caicos
The Turks and Caicos Islands are now making exceptions for fully vaccinated residents and citizens returning home. While this still leaves tourists needing to go through the 5-day PCR testing requirement, it’s a welcome change for those who live on the islands that have been hesitant to travel due to restrictions upon return.
Now, as long as the resident of Turks and Caicos has been fully vaccinated for at least 2 weeks, and the vaccination certificate has been issued by the Turks and Caicos, they can travel without testing/quarantine upon return.
If this test program with vaccinated residents goes well, it’s not a stretch to assume that the nation will start making exceptions for vaccinated tourists as well.
Yukon, Canada
Starting May 25, fully vaccinated travelers arriving to Yukon from anywhere else in Canada will not have to self-isolate for the previously required 14 days.
While this seems like such a small update, it’s big news. The fact that a territory in Canada has made an exception for vaccinated travelers and has also acknowledged the fact that vaccinated travelers break the chain of contagion, means other provinces and territories might get the memo.
The government of Yukon states “Nearly 75% if eligible Yukoners have now received their first shot and 65% have received both doses. The strong uptake will allow Yukon to lift Covid-19 Restrictions starting later this month.” In addition to the travel restriction being lifted, they are also allowing bars and restaurants to return to 100% capacity with no social distancing, which must come as a welcome relief for residents.
Hopefully the government of Canada can use Yukon as an example and start to draft general exceptions for vaccinated travelers, especially fully vaccinated citizens trying to return home.
Hungary
Hungary briefly reopened for tourism in the summer of 2020, but since September 2020, has stayed virtually closed for all foreign visitors. Generally speaking, only Hungarian residents and citizens have been able to return home and have been subject to a 10-day quarantine with a PCR ‘test to release’ option.
Now, since Hungary has reached their 4 million citizen goal for vaccinations, they’ve come to an agreement to start allowing foreigners to enter, providing they’ve been fully inoculated.
Hungarian’s who’ve been fully vaccinated can now return home without quarantines or tests. In addition to that, foreigners with an immunity certificate issued by Serbia, Montenegro, Bahrein, Croatia, or Slovenia can now enter Hungary and will also be exempt from tests or quarantines.
For now, the exemptions on entry and testing/isolation will only be for Hungary’s neighbors, but could expand to further nations as vaccinations rates continue to climb throughout the world.
Grenada
Starting May 1, Grenada has made entry slightly easier for vaccinated tourists. Those who can show proof that 14 days has elapsed since their final shot will now only have to quarantine for up to 48 hours upon arrival, instead of the full 5 days.
Visitors will still have to provide a 72-hour negative PCR test to enter and be subject to another test upon arrival, of which the negative results will end the ‘up to 48-hour’ quarantine.
Qatar
Qatar’s borders still remain closed for tourism, but the government is now making exceptions to quarantine rules for fully vaccinated residents returning home.
All residents and citizens returning to Qatar will be exempt from the seven to ten-day quarantine if they’ve been fully vaccinated with Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, or Johnson & Johnson, at least 14-days before entry.
While quarantine rules are being relaxed for inoculated passengers, testing rules are holding strong. Any fully vaccinated residents traveling to Qatar will still need to provide a negative 72-hour PCR test for entry.
Serbia
Serbia is making a small start with its vaccination exemptions, including only residents and citizens to its latest update. Currently, only those who have been issued a vaccination certificate by Serbian authorities specifically can bypass the 48-hour PCR testing rule.
This means Serbia is not recognizing vaccine certificates issued by other countries at this time but is starting by recognizing its own governments first.

Hello! Poland never took Canada off their 'approved' list since June 2020 and has kept Canada on the whole time (all while other EU nations removed it) So yes, entry from Canada is possible at this time. However, I believe a 10-day quarantine will apply.

Any idea fo Hungary if "foreigners with an immunity certificate issued by Serbia, Montenegro, Bahrein, Croatia, or Slovenia" refers to only citizens or is it just anyone with those documents. IE. I am an American who has the vaccine documents from Serbia. Thanks!

Hi Andrew, I really don't know for sure, but I feel that if you are coming from Serbia, with documents from Serbia, that should be okay.
