With inoculations for Covid-19 underway worldwide, it was only a matter of time before nations began opening their borders for travelers that have been vaccinated.

While some countries have chosen to open their borders for vaccinated tourists without any entry requirements such as testing or quarantines, other countries are taking a more precautious route.

Being vaccinated for Covid-19 does provide protection for the traveler but immunologists are unsure if those who have been inoculated are still able to transmit the virus. Vaccinated tourists should still wear a mask and do everything they can to prevent unknowingly spreading the virus.

Anguilla

Bahamas

Starting May 1, 2021 The Bahamas will make exceptions to allow fully vaccinated passengers to skip PCR testing. The Bahamian government is requiring vaccinated passengers to bring proof they’ve been inoculated and at least 2 weeks have passed since they’ve received their last shot. With proof of vaccination, no pre-flight PCR testing is required.

Barbados

Partial exception for vaccinated travelers

Starting May 8, 2021, Barbados is now softening some of its strict entry rules for vaccinated tourists. Passengers that have been fully vaccinated will still have to present a negative PCR test to enter but will have more relaxed rules once on the island, like shortening the mandatory 7-day quarantine down to 1-2 days.

Belize

The government of Belize has updated its entry requirements to allow vaccinated tourists from all countries to visit without providing proof of a negative PCR/Antigen test. Vaccinated travelers can now show their proof of vaccination documents before boarding, providing the last treatment was administered at least 2 weeks prior to the arrival date.

Croatia

As of April 1, 2021 Croatia is now allowing vaccinated travelers to enter without needing to comply with the alternative 48-hour PCR test requirement.

Unlike some other nations, they clearly recognize both the single-dose and the 2-dose versions of the vaccine. Their government website reads: “vaccination certificate for persons who received a second dose of COVID-19 vaccine more than 14 days prior. Exceptionally, in the case of a vaccine received in a single dose, a certificate of receipt of a single dose if the dose was received more than 14 days before crossing the state border,”

In addition to the new vaccine exception, Croatia has once again reopened to third-party passengers outside the EU, providing they can show proof of accommodation or similar touristic activity.

Cyprus

Cyprus originally stated they would be accepting vaccinated tourists as of March 2021, however as the date approached they made no formal changes to entry requirements. However, they have now expressed they will be allowing vaccinated tourists to bypass testing/quarantines from Israel as of April 1, 2021, and from the UK as of May 1, 2021. Vaccinated travelers from 65+ countries are expected to be included as of May 10, 2021

Ecuador

Starting March 22, 2021 Ecuador will allow full vaccinated passengers to skip the testing requirement, which has just been revised/shortened from a 10-day PCR test down to a 3-day PCR or antigen test.

El Salvador

El Salvador reopened for tourism from all countries on September 19, 2020 and has since been requiring all arrivals to bring proof of a negative 72-hour PCR test for entry.

As of April 15, 2021, vaccinated travelers can bring proof of receiving their full treatment and will be exempt from the PCR testing requirement.

Georgia

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that starting February 1, 2021, all international tourists who wish to enter Georgia by air may now do so, as long as they have received both doses of their Covid-19 vaccine and can provide their certificate of proof.

Travelers who have been vaccinated can enter Georgia without testing or quarantines.

Guatemala

April 27 update: Iceland has brought back testing on arrival, even for vaccinated passengers, starting April 27, 2021. Everybody must undergo testing on arrival to Iceland. The benefit for vaccinated passengers is they only have to wait in ‘quarantine’ 2-24 hours for test results to come back, while unvaccinated travelers have to quarantine for 5 to 6 days.

Lebanon

Lebanon has announced that tourists who present proof of a vaccination certificate will not need to quarantine upon arrival.

Update: As of April 2021 vaccinated travelers are now also exempt from presenting a negative 96-hour PCR test to enter Lebanon. However, a second PCR test may be performed upon arrival at the airport.

Lithuania

(EU only)

Lithuania, as of Feb 22, 2021, is now allowing fully vaccinated passengers to be exempt from the 48-hour pre-flight PCR test as well as the 10-day isolation requirements.

Currently, this vaccination exception only applies to travelers from countries that are currently permitted to visit, which includes fellow EU nations as well as 7 third-party nations suggested by the EU.

Malta

Fully vaccinated passengers coming from ‘Amber’ list nations can now use proof of vaccination to enter Malta without testing or quarantines. The Amber list includes countries inside the EU and outside of the EU like Canada, UAE, and Turkey.

Maldives

Starting April 20th, fully vaccinated passengers can now skip the 96-hour PCR testing requirement. Instead of taking a test, inoculated travelers will bring their vaccination certificate showing they have received their last (or single shot for J&J) at least 14 days before entering the Maldives.

Montenegro

Starting March 15, 2021, Montenegro is now allowing fully vaccinated passengers to skip testing and/or quarantine requirements.

Instead of providing proof of a 48-hour negative PCR test, travelers can show their proof of vaccination. The last or 2nd dose must be administered at least 7 days before entering with a completed vaccine certificate.

Panama

Panama’s Minister of Health, Luis Francisco Sucre, announced a decision had been reached at a recent government council that will allow vaccinated tourists to bypass testing and/or quarantine requirements for entry into Panama.

He stated as long as travelers can show certification that they’ve received both doses of the vaccine, they can enter Panama without showing proof of a negative PCR or antigen test, which is currently required for entry.

Poland

Romania

(EU only)

Romania has lifted all travel restrictions for tourists who have been vaccinated within the EU. Previously, all incoming travelers had to quarantine for 14 days but a recent announcement by Romanian authorities states that travelers who have been vaccinated against Covid-19 will bypass the quarantine.

Slovenia

(EU only)

Starting Feb 13, 2021 any EU resident/citizen who has proof of vaccination can enter Slovenia without testing or quarantine requirements.

Currently, it is only for fellow EU travelers, and not third-party countries.

Sri Lanka

Partial exception for vaccinated travelers

Sri Lanka has amended entry requirements to make it easier for vaccinated tourists, but they are not removing all the barriers quite yet. Fully vaccinated passengers will still have to perform a pre-flight PCR test and stay in approved accommodation for the first 24-48 hours while a 2nd test is performed. After that, vaccinated passengers are free to roam around Sri Lanka. In comparison, unvaccinated tourists have to stay in the accommodation for up to 14 days and even perform a 3rd ‘exit’ test upon leaving the country.

St. Kitts & Nevis

Partial exception for vaccinated travelers

If we’re being honest, the exception for vaccinated travelers by St. Kitts and Nevis is almost not worth including in this list, since it’s so minor. All vaccinated visitors to the islands still have a laundry list of entry requirements to fulfill, including hotel quarantine and multiple PCR tests.

As of May 1, 2021, fully vaccinated passengers get these 2 slight exceptions: A 9-day hotel quarantine instead of 14-days, and no exit PCR test before leaving.

Thailand

Partial exception for vaccinated travelers

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has announced that the country will begin to allow vaccinated tourists with a shorter quarantine and may even waive it entirely. TAT Governor, Yuthasak Supasorn said that the program for vaccinated tourists will be introduced step by step. The first step being a reduced quarantine from 14 days to 3 days or waiving it entirely he explained. Although no confirmed start date for the program was given, the Governor told Reuters “We have to be fast because we want to start welcoming tourists in the third quarter,”

Update on Iceland - everybody has to undergo border testing upon arrival now, including vaccinated passengers. They do not have to present a negative PCR test in advance but have to quarantine while waiting for their test results....was about to book but as there is this new restriction the situation has changed for me....as I do not want to end up in a quarantine facility anyway....
