Traveling during fall has many benefits, like less crowded popular destinations, and cheaper flights. According to recent data gathered by TripAdvisor, 40% of Americans will travel long-haul this fall and their favorite international destination is Mexico.
Mexico offers travelers a wonderful fall vacation experience. The Mexican Caribbean and the Mexican Pacific coast have incredible beaches and warm weather. For those interested in the local culture, cities like Mexico City, Oaxaca, and Guadalajara present travelers with fascinating colonial architecture and a taste of the real Mexican experience.
However, traveling can always be a little—or very— stressful, but here we share 7 great tips to travel to Mexico stress-free during your next fall trip:
1. Choose Airports With Easy Entry
If you are traveling to Cancun, you have chosen wisely! Just prefer direct flights and you will save time and money. Cancun International Airport has the smoothest entry point to Mexico at the moment. The immigration form has been removed and the government is already preparing for a record-breaking Winter season.
Other airports in Mexico, like Puerto Vallarta International Airport, have also removed the immigration form as part of a government pilot strategy, which will significantly reduce wait times. Travelers should consult if the international airport at their destination is part of the migration form removal program.
2. Find The Best Fall Deals For Flights And Hotels
During the fall season many airlines, travel agencies, and hotels offer travelers great deals and discounts. Just a few days ago Expedia shared a list of the destinations offering the most savings for travelers and two Mexican cities made the cut. Flights to Mexico City and Cancun will be down by 10%.
Opt for the cheapest hotel booking platforms. According to a recent study by InsureMyTrip, travelers should prefer Hotels.com or Expedia over Booking.com. And it’s always wise to compare prices directly with the hotel.
3. Consider Weather
Mexico is known for its great weather and if you are visiting the Mexican Caribbean or the Mexican Pacific Coast you will definitely want sunny days. However, travelers must bear in mind that hurricane season in Mexico ends in November, so it’s possible to encounter a few rainy days at certain destinations.
4. Pack The Best Clothing
Even though you will be visiting a sunny and warm destination, bringing a coat —especially in places where you could encounter a storm— is a smart idea. Light and comfortable clothing are always useful and, of course, your swimsuit is a must to enjoy the ocean waters, jump in cenotes or relax during perfect pool days.
5. Consider All-Inclusive Hotels
One of the best ways to avoid stress in a different country is to stay at a hotel that has everything available and ready for you to enjoy. Some travelers might find this alternative more expensive, but they might be surprised.
Some resorts in Mexico offer travelers great deals and might even help to save money by not adding up restaurants, transportation, bars, and other expenses and services that are usually included in these accommodations.
6. Learn About Holidays And Festivals
Mexicans celebrate Independence Day with parades, food, music, and dance on September 16. This might be a great opportunity to celebrate along, but just consider that some businesses might be closed. The traditional Day of the Dead usually takes place on November 1 and 2 and its celebration might change depending on the destination. Experiencing local traditions is also a great way to travel.
7. Stay Informed
Is there any new construction near the airport or your accommodation? Is there still sargassum seaweed on the beach you want to visit? The best way to avoid unpleasant surprises is to stay informed and tuned to local news and find alternatives for possible delays or unplanned detours. Double check if the parks, attractions, and places you want to visit will be open by the time you want to visit.
