As the Omicron outbreak grips the world, many nations are closing their borders and adding entry restrictions on U.S. travelers.

Europe has become complicated for U.S. tourists this winter due to ever-changing entry requirements since Omicron emerged.

However, below are eight popular destinations that haven’t changed their entry requirements for U.S tourists in the previous month. As a result, they remain excellent travel destinations for U.S tourists this winter.

All eight destinations will give you:

  • Endless sun
  • Glorious beaches
  • Excellent outdoor activities
  • An escape from the winter gloom
  • Short-flights from the U.S. (Other than the U.A.E)

This list isn't exhaustive and restrictions may change over the coming weeks and months.

1. Mexico

Firstly, Mexico has been restriction-free for most of the COVID-19 pandemic. The nation has been an outlier in a world full of tough restrictions in the previous two years. Not only is Mexico restriction-free, but it’s a sunny destination for U.S tourists that’s only a short flight away.

Entry Requirements:

Currently, U.S tourists don’t require evidence of a negative COVID-19 test upon entry, and there’s no quarantine on arrival. U.S. travelers will need to fill out a health declaration form prior to arrival.

2. Costa Rica

Costa Rica continues to be an outlier in a world of growing restrictions. The popular Central American nation hasn’t increased its entry requirements since the outbreak of the Omicron variant. Costa Rica remains the ultimate winter getaway for Americans with its luxury resorts, excellent weather, and superb beaches.

Entry Requirements:

Currently, travelers are not required to provide evidence of a negative COVID-19 test result when traveling to Costa Rica, and there’s no quarantine on arrival.

3. The Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic has had relaxed entry requirements for the majority of the COVID-19 pandemic. That hasn’t changed since the outbreak of the Omicron variant. The nation is only a 3-5 hour flight for all Americans. It offers sun, sea, sand, and the ultimate winter escape in 2022.

Entry Requirements:

Currently, unvaccinated tourists arriving without a negative COVID-19 test result may be required to take a COVID-19 breath test at random. Travelers will only have to quarantine if they test positive for COVID-19.

4. The United Arab Emirates

The U.A.E, particularly Dubai, has been open without stringent entry requirements for a large portion of the COVID-19 pandemic. That hasn’t changed for U.S tourists since the outbreak of the Omicron variant. If you’re looking for a sunny winter break, the U.A.E—which is sweltering during the summer months—offers the perfect temperatures in winter.

Entry Requirements:

Currently, the United States is on the ‘green list’ for Abu Dhabi. Therefore, vaccinated travelers from the U.S must take an RT-PCR test on arrival and on day 6 in Abu Dhabi. If so, they won’t have to quarantine. Tourists landing in Dubai must present a negative result of a PCR test within 96 hours of traveling to the U.A.E.

5. Aruba

Aruba recently opened for tourism in 2021 after border closures and strict entry requirements of the majority of 2020 and 2021. However, they haven’t increased entry requirements since the outbreak of the Omicron variant. Aruba is a stunning Caribbean destination that’s only a four-hour flight for most Americans.

Entry Requirements:

Currently, travelers arriving without a negative COVID-19 test must take a test on arrival in Aruba. They must quarantine until the results are in, which may take up to 24 hours.

6. The Bahamas

The Bahamas is the perfect winter escape for American tourists this winter. The nation hasn’t increased its entry requirements since the Omicron outbreak. The Bahamas is known for incredible scuba diving, stunning white beaches, gorgeous tropical weather, and the Bahama Mama cocktail.

Entry Requirements:

Currently, the Bahamas remains open for U.S. tourists this winter without an increase in entry requirements. Fully vaccinated travelers will need to obtain a negative COVID-19 test (antigen or PCR) no more than five days before arriving in the Bahamas. Unvaccinated travelers over 12 must provide evidence of a negative PCR test taken no more than 96 hours before arriving.

7. Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico has been open to U.S travelers for most of the COVID-19 pandemic. The entry requirements haven’t changed since the Omicron variant emerged, making it an excellent winter destination for U.S travelers chasing the sun. Puerto Rico is known for its rich Spanish heritage, stunning tropical beaches, and tropical rainforests.

Entry Requirements:

Currently, fully vaccinated U.S tourists are required to upload an official Vaccination Card through the Travel Declaration Form portal. Unvaccinated tourists need to show evidence of a negative PCR or antigen test taken within 72 hours of arrival.

8. Belize

Belize has remained relatively restriction-free for much of the pandemic. Since the emergence of the Omicron variant, the nation hasn't changed its entry requirements for U.S. tourists. Belize is world-renowned for its incredible bio-diversity, scuba diving, tropical beaches, and Mayan ruins.

Entry Requirements:

Currently, both vaccinated and unvaccinated tourists can enter Belize through the Philip Goldson International Airport and will only need to provide a negative COVID-19 test result taken within 96 hours of arrival or 48 hours if travelers use an Antigen Rapid Test. Travelers will have to pay $50 each for a test if they arrive without proof of testing.

I’m in Mexico right now and I would highly recommend it to anyone living in the west who is fed up with covid psychological abuse. People here are chill and normal and you have freedom and sunshine! Don’t be afraid to leave your grim covid and vaccine obsessed “first world” country and come somewhere actually positive and mentally uplifting.
