Cancun could be officially opening to tourists on June 10th, according to the Governor of Quinatana Roo. Here are just the facts from top officials and everything you need to know regarding the reopening.

The Governor of Quintana Roo says tourism for Cancun could see a reopening between June 8th and 10th.
Additionally, he announced that the entire state of Riviera May including Playa Del Carmen and Isla Mujeres will reopen if all federal guidelines and policies are met.
Governor Carlos Joaquin says tourists could start arriving for June 10th
In a public address, Carlos Joaquin said that tourism is an essential activity for the state and that the government will fight for it.
He noted that between June 8th and 10th, tourists could be received and nearly 80,000 jobs will be gradually recovered.
Immediately following the announcement travelers didn’t wait long to start booking hotels as reservations systems experienced a 40-50 point increase in bookings.
“Currently we are up between 40 and 50 points in hotel reservations already, which is encouraging,” said González in a televised press conference.
Last week, Marisol Vanegas Pérez, head of the Ministry of Tourism said that 2500 Cancun hotels, restaurants and tour operators have started the process of being certified under new strict health measures set out by the government
Marisol Vanegas Pérez, head of the Ministry of Tourism, stated that they expected 1,600 companies to register to obtain the badge, however, three days after being launched the figure is almost twice the expected number.
Before the certification can be rewarded, applications are being evaluated to determine if they meet the requirements to operate.
Companies must first register on the website, carry out the health and sanitation protocols included in the information; and wait for the ruling and verification by health and tourism authorities.
And then, the “Certification of Health Protection and Prevention in Tourist Facilities” is given to the company that has complied with all requirements.
Multiple airlines have announced that flights to Cancun will reusme from Canada and the United States starting in June.
Air Canada and Southwest both announced direct flights from major hubs such as Toronto and Houston.
So far , large resorts like Xcaret, AM Resorts, Hard Rock, Mayakoba, Royalton, Temptation, Coral Princess and Fiesta Americana Cozumel, among others have announced that they will be open and operating by June 15th.
The Moon Palace Resort launched what they are calling their “Purely Palace” health and sanitation program which will help to protect guests from contracting Covid-19.
The Governor participated in a virtual meeting with members of the cabinet of the Government of Mexico, led by the Secretary of the Interior Olga Sánchez Cordero to review the model for restarting economic activities.
“The tourist reactivation requires the constant and permanent application of rapid tests for COVID-19″. It is urgent that the the Government of Mexico authorize its customs clearance. Health protocols will be essential for the travel and arrival of tourists to our destinations. Together We’ll Go Forward,” he posted on social media.
The rapid testing of incoming travelers has not yet been approved by the Mexico federal government.
Carlos Joaquín expressed that the tourism industry in Quintana Roo is in a crisis due to the COVID-19 emergency that resulted in the cancellation of 8 million passenger seats and the loss of almost 80,000 jobs, which forces them to generate economic development as soon as possible.
According to Expedia, Cancun and Playa Del Carmen are the two most searched international destinations for hotels by Americans.
